So a lot of major schools are throwing 6-7 Mill at Ewers apparently to contend for championship. Since its a slow day, why not the Vols ? I know it wont happen but for the sake of fun message board discussion hear me out:

a) Chances of Ewers having a better next season than Nico are much higher : older, more experienced, proven etc

b) If Nico has Ewers type season, he is most likely gone after next year anyways. So both are one year guys in good scenario. If Nico has average to bad season, he will be s liability for 2026 anyways.

c) The loyalty and team bond aspect is gone anyways. Ohio State recruits 5* QB every year and gets a transfer QB to compete. Further loyalty can’t be one sided. If Nico entertained Oregon and others for more money, why not UT for better QB ?

Ewers would transform UT into instant contender. Sadly I doubt he would come or our program would even pursue him.

Nico has a much higher ceiling. Ewers is a game manager, Nico has the potential to be a game changer. Just a dumb thread though.

Ewers "managed" to throw the perfect pass in OT to put them in the next round. This is an example of saying my baby is cute and yours is ugly. 😬 😬 😬 I'm pretty sure Ewers would beat out Nico 10 out of 10 Times, TODAY. Maybe not next season or 2026.

Anyone, who watched the OSU game, knows we need other positions filled way more than another quarterback. Take the money and buy offensive linemen, receivers and a linebacker and we may be in business.
I disagree that the game proved we are fine at QB and need other positions more. Sometimes OLs look worse because the QB is worthless presnap and reacts slowly post snap.

On a further note, I thought we were done for when they were talking at the beginning of the game about all the special equipment we bought to sew into Nico’s jersey to keep him warm while Will Howard was playing sleeveless.

Salvageable? Really?

Nico threw for 2900 yards, 22, touchdowns, and 4 interceptions, and we're calling Nico salvageable?

Oh wait - I lied. That wasn't Nico Iamaleava. That was this guy - as a sophomore.

Nico only threw for ... 2600 yards, 19 touchdowns, and 5 interceptions. That's much worse. He's clearly a scrub. What could I possibly be thinking?

Nico’s arm talent is worlds above Ewers.

Ewers actually has a pretty weak arm. Nico throws lasers.

Give me Nico over Ewers all day, any day.

We’ll just disagree. Sometimes OLs look bad because they are bad. When former players, that played the position, like Mike Stowell say the OL is bad and use poor technique, I’ll go with that opinion.

If Ewers was as good as you want him to be, Texas would keep him. Regardless of Arch being there.

Yeah sometimes. Objectively bad O Lines don’t usually pave the way for the single season rushing record holder though.

There is more to an offensive line than just run blocking and the scheme that teams used against us matters too. A number of teams played a three man front with a light box which opened up the run.

Of course there is more to line play than just run blocking. But the QB is the leader of the offense. Ours is a multimillionaire. A good QB elevates those around him. So-so lines look good. Mediocre receivers look good. Good lines and good receivers look great.

3/5 of that OL looked just fine with Hooker running things. Bru McCoy looked better in 2022 than he ever did with Joe or Nico. None of that is a coincidence.
