Do we care that we're currently 57th?

It will be harder to keep up the depth if more players are leaving via the portal than coming in, and most freshmen reqruits need time to develope.

A lot of top teams are using the portal better than we are, so we might be at a disadvantage.

I'll add this - the 18 players leaving UT would comprise a top 10 class just by themselves

Vol fans: “Heupel has never recruited and played an OL or WR group!!1!”

Also Vol fans: “Heupel isn’t getting enough OL and WRs in the portal!!1!”

The roster is nearly full. I’m not sure we will pick up any other players if we get that Bama WR.

Being good in the portal doesn’t equate to being good on the field. FSU is the obvious example of portal mercenaries gone wrong. You also have Ole Miss and Miami walking around as paper tigers full of transfer “talent”.

I just can't agree with this assumption! Take a look at the teams where many transfers have landed. Any of those teams close to the top 10 finish of the '23 season??

Does this fire up the NegaVols or do we just call On3 trash?

I really haven’t figured out this new NIL and portal dynamic. Not sure I ever will as it’s most certainly gonna change into a moving target, probably every year for a while.

Personally, I view this offseason thus far as not quite disastrous but close. We had more talent vote with their feet than we do with this new class of 25 freshmen coming in. It was a mass exodus. I don’t buy the argument that all these players were encouraged to leave. And how many of this incoming class of 25 will be in the portal in December?

If we don’t see some coaching changes this offseason, then I have no reason to expect improvement in our program and our W-L record. We will remain a second-tier program with a ceiling of 10-2. We will have more performances like we had against Ohio St.

Just my opinion. Call me a negavol.

Production of those 18 or are you starting gazing? Because we have not lost much production at all

Portal rankings don’t mean a damn thing. There’s maybe a handful of players that make real impact that teams grab up. Tennessee has done pretty well in the portal the past few years. I’m impatient but I think in the past they’ve done it the right way.

No. There's no reason to care. And if anyone wants to care, well, there's another portal window in the spring. So why bother? "Oh but they'll lose out on time getting acclimated to the team." Sure. If folks want to let that keep them up at night, sure. But not me. Not going to bother with that. I suggest others do the same.

Ole Miss spent the farm to assemble the greatest transfer haul in history, and what did it get them? The Gator Bowl. Just no reason to care.
