They weren’t great with those starters in conference last year. We’ll see how the class helps but freshmen generally don’t play much in the SEC and turn out winning a whole lot4 returning starting pitchers and #7 Nationally ranked recruiting class.
I understand they lost Condon but one man does not make a team.
Thanks. Haven’t followed anyone but us this off season really, especially since most of this was happening while we were still playingYep. 16 portal transfers and 6 JUCOs plus they finished 11th nationally last year. Their new coach is the real deal. They win 17 SEC games last year and their Regional.
Prolly more grateful to not have that bullseye on their back. Let the Aggies deal with it for now…Looking at this poll for last year and The Vols were at #11....yep, feeling pretty good with this ranking. Not having #1 finisher from last year, pre-season #1 going in, should create some 'disrespect pissed-off-ness', right?
Considering everything we lost, I think it'd be a little crazy for anyone around the program to feel disrespected by a #5 preseason rank. Yeah, we brought in a ton of talent, but the freshmen have to prove themselves and the transfers have to gel. If you ask me, it's quite a feat to turn over such an experienced team and still be in the title conversation the next season. Only elite programs can do that.Looking at this poll for last year and The Vols were at #11....yep, feeling pretty good with this ranking. It would be ironic if the polls realized there's a post championship doldrum ONLY after Tennessee wins the national title.Considering everything we lost, I think it'd be a little crazy for anyone around the program to feel disrespected by a #5 preseason rank. I think by far the primary motivator—and Tony has said this a couple times—is the recent trend of championship teams having a major regression the season after they win the title. Ole Miss and Mississippi State crashed out and didn't make the postseason, and LSU had to play well down the stretch to recover from a terrible start in conference play. If Tony can keep the team playing at a high level, it's only going to add to his legend.
