If Anyone Had Told Me Before the Season…

There is nothing to be ashamed of..............the real question is how do they respond!!
A bad game was due..........this bad perhaps not. Lets see how they look a week or two from now.
A loss is nothing to be ashamed of...it is the level of play in the loss that deserves shame.

…that after 15 games we’d be 14-1 and had spent 5 weeks as AP #1, I’d have taken a 30 pt loss at FL for that in a heartbeat. 🏀🍊🧡
Pump that sunshine! Lord knows we need lots of it after what we all just witnessed. That was a beat down for the ages.
Hopefully we avenge that loss when they come to Knoxville.

I thought sunshine pumping was reserved for football. That looked like a Derek Dooley or Butch Jones team.

I am begging you people to stop comparing every sport to football. Basketball has a MUCH larger variance factor. (As does baseball, hence our team last year losing 15-2 at home to Georgia and losing a buy game to Lipscomb, but going on to win it all.)

Oh we understand. Football is bad because EVERY season game means way too much. 1 loss and you are done. Basketball EVERY season game means nothing, it is March that matters.

You played good enough defense to win. We got enough wide open shots to see that the offense was working. That’s against a Top 10, maybe top 5 team on the road.

You just couldn’t throw it in the ocean.

Shoot 5% worse than average across the board and that’s a win, it might be at 10% below average.

Next game that really matters is at home against UGA next week. It’d be nice to get a road win at Texas, but losing that still doesn’t hurt that bad. Didn’t want to lose tonight, never want to lose like that, but it doesn’t affect any long term goals at all.

12 teams in the SEC already have a conference loss with two more possibly joining them tonight. It’s going to be a long hard season, especially on the road.

5 weeks at number 1 after losing most of your starters…..unbelievable.

13 scholarship limit.

2 not filled equals 11.

1 defection and 1 season ending injury equals 9.

2 players have struggled to earn minutes.

Down to 7 regulars. 2 of those aren’t 100% due to injuries. That leaves 5 and players are going to have occasional off nights.

Yet this team held the #1 AP spot longer than any team before them. Actually the number of weeks at number 1 this year equals the previous total in the history of the program.

Remain calm. A night like this was in the cards. They’ll get things heading in the right direction.

Hardly anything has been posted about Phillips. He only managed to go 3 minutes. His injured shoulder obviously limited his contribution and the Shows officiating crew letting it be a very physical game didn’t help. But UT usually takes advantage of games when players knock each other around.

We basically had one post player last night and he’s a complementary offensive threat. The shooters couldn’t shoot. Best to just flush this one and hope that this will be as bad as it gets with injuries and multiple players struggling to score. Mashack’s messed up finger probably has a lot to do with his minor contribution on offense.

I’m concerned that Cade’s shoulder will be an issue for a good while. Those injuries tend to linger. I think it was Lamonte Turner’s shoulder that caused him to shut it down about 4 years ago.

Dubar has the biggest opportunity of his career. He needs to respond to help TN from falling from the AP #1 to the middle of the pack in the SEC. But based on his 3x boneheaded plays at the end of 3 different games, he might not have the IQ, self discipline, attitude, and/or ability to take to the coaching.

Agree on big picture, but if a TN team loses by 30 it shouldn't be because we got beat up and out-hustled. Letting them win by 30 and be fresh enough at the end to enjoy the celebration is hogwash. They should have needed EMT's and a blood bank to make it across the finish line if they were going to embarrass us on the score board.

Florida will be a handful at TBA. They are a very talented and well coached team... It is what it is.
I guess there's no rule saying creepy, pencil-necked, predators can't be good coaches; but there's no excuse for our fans not to make him feel like the pos he is when he visits TBA.

Yeah I was hoping Dubar was going to be the last piece of starting 5 but I am starting to agree there is something missing with him becoming the player it appears he can be. Maybe Barnes can pull something out of him. And yes those injuries to Mashack and Phillips are a problem right now.

We shot 17%. It happens and on the road you are gonna get hammered. I have seen Duke, Kansas, and UNC all get beat by a ton and still win the title

I was not sure what to make of this team. I said we would know more after the Florida game. We do. It lacks depth, and it has to play at its full potential to play with top teams, much less to beat them. Like most of Barnes’ teams, it lacks a solid post player. I’m not sure how far this team can go, but I will surprised if they make a deep tournament run.
