It can't happen. Imagine if your pay was based on you going to work and doing a good job but your boss keeps telling you to stay home or keeps telling you to do other chores so you can't complete your job and get paid.Performance-based pay is the way to go in every sport, but it will probably never happen in any meaningful way.
You cannot compare playing time to other things like that. The coaches control how much you play, do you want the coach playing who gives us the best chance to win or the people paying some diva DB who really sucks making the decision who plays?Anyone that shells out tons of money for anything that doesn't work, or work correctly, should expect their money back. Whether it's a crappy meal, service, car, shoes, clothes, TV, construction work, anything. People underperforming, is basically the same thing as your server sucking horribly, your mechanic breaking your ****, your doctor cutting off the wrong arm, etc.
Plenty of athlets get paid even though they suck now. The main reason agents want long term contracts.Well, in the pros a lot is not guaranteed, so they are paid based on performance. Also, if they suck, they are cut and not paid. Seems reasonable.

The biggest problem with your idea, besides the fact that it's incredibly stupid, is that playing "bad" is subjective. Who is going to determine if someone plays "good" or "bad"? While there can be easy to spot "good" and "bad" performances, who is going to decide if someone gets paid based on their performance? You would need a contract that includes that type of language, which nobody would ever sign. Would you be willing to not get paid if you had a poor performance in one of your shifts at Taco Bell? Looking at your post history, you have so many bad takes that I'm proud of you for making this one stick outYou play bad your pay is bad.
Even in the nba there’s stuff like being eligible for a super max extension if you make an all star team. That sort of “next contract” incentive obviously wouldn’t work in college with how short the careers are but it’s not totally dissimilar to renegotiating NIL each year. The vast majority of NBA salary is fully guaranteed. There are incentives sprinkled in to many contracts. But it’s most often less than 20% the total potential contract value.
That's why it's called a contract. There are provisions that would protect a player. Obviously they can't perform if they are dressed out.You cannot compare playing time to other things like that. José Abreu is my current favorite example. The Astros signed him to three years/$63M. Dfa’d his ass mid season, owing him the full balance of his contract. Lesson?Plenty of athlets get paid even though they suck now. The main reason agents want long term contracts.
Who makes the decision to cut a NIL player? The coach or the person making payment? Maybe the coach is ok with performance but the NIL people expected a first round draft pick type player.
Look at MLB, lots of those guys are making 15 mil batting .215 after having 1 good all star year.
