I noticed today that the Higginbottom girl on Arkansas' team did a lot of pushing off the defender, but wasn't called for it. Is that something the officials are not emphasizing now and letting go?

Checking the NCAA Women's basketball rule book on arm bars... it's complicated.

Anyone who wants to read and offer explanation, start reading at section "c. Illegal Contact" on pdf page 114 / document page 109.

If one of our defenders made a move to tap Higginbottom's dribble for a steal, didn't make body contact, but was impeded in her move by the dribbler's arm-bar, or she extended or locked her arm-bar... I think then you would have a case for calling an offensive foul.

I'll leave it to any lawyers here, who have also played the game, to interpret.

IMO Higginbottom plays a lot like Georgia Amoore, UK, former V-Tech player, they both have perfected the nuanced arm bar just enough to create space and keep a ref from exhaling on the whistle. They both have good games, look for Amoore to have a good game when we face them at UK, especially if we get these refs.
