I saw where the NFL was thinking of tweeking field goals. The article mentioned colleges might join. They didn't want to see kickers drilling field goals from 60 yards like they were extra points.

the goal post is 18' 6". They wanted to add a second goal post 4 to 5 feet more narrow on each side. Between the small posts and get your 3 pts, between the outer posts and get 1. Extra points had to go between the smaller posts.

Idea was to make longer field goals harder since everyone is kicking basically 60 yarders now. Plus make teams go for it on 4th down more often.

Talk about brutal, down 2 on the 30, 4th and 2 with 3 or 4 minutes left......kick it? Might only get 1 and still be down. Go for it?

Could be stupid, could be interesting....kinda makes sense...the tours made our golf courses way longer because guys hit it a ton now. Augusta "Tiger proofed" the Masters. Guess games must adapt to bigger, stronger, faster, with more precise training.

I thought rugby did something similar am not too familiar with it....
Obviously rugby has shared roots with our game, their field goals hearken back to when field goals where at the front of the endzone, similar to Canadian Football (who have much deeper endzones, which leads to all kinds of fun...)

Thanks. Was thinking rugby and aussie Rules had the same goal post type.

They should just make the goalposts triangular shaped or completely box in the rectangular shaped ones they currently have if they want more difficulty.

Imagine trying to decide between a 40 yard field goal right down the middle to tie the game or going for a 4th and 4.

Might make for some interesting late game decisions and plays

Nope. Probably one of the 10 people on earth without a facebook account
Lol same but no offense that sounds crazy. There's less than a handful of NFL kickers that can hit from 60+. Maybe there's more going forward, I think it makes it interesting. I'd much rather kickers be too good than suck.

Yeah idk if there has even been 50 made kicks of 60 yards or more in the history of the NFL.

Yeah but 50+ look easy nowadays....

Until you need that too good kicker to miss from 40 to keep from getting beat

Australias National Rugby League is kicking off their season with four games in America again. Gronk has been doing promos for the games at the Raiders Stadium in Nevada. If you think you hate rugby, you have probably only seen Rugby Union which is the rugby version with all the boring, wierd scrums. I find that as entertaining as watching paint dry, soccer, cricket, etc. The NRL is the Rugby League version with very different rules. Last year in Nevada, they got a legit crowd of 45,000. I believe the NRL signed a five year contract with the Las Vegas Raiders to start each season in America.

I think they have tampered enough with their rules

I hate this idea. Might as well just get rid of kickers. They miss extra points and field goals too often already imo so I don’t actually understand the reasoning for this. If anything by I’d change the point system but nothing about the goal posts. Less than 30 yards and it’s 1 or 2 points. 30-60 is 3 points. 60+ 4 points

Domes. Domes have no environmental issues to disturb a ball traveling 50+ yards while it is 20 degrees and snowing outside.

I say, eliminate Dome stadiums and don't mess with our field goal posts!!
