Vandy Pre-Game

Because game threads never go up soon enough for me……especially for those of us who have been around since 1976….the anxiety is real…. We. Can’t. Lose. To. Vandy.
Good shot at losing if we don't play an A game. They are better than last season have a big center kind of player we've had trouble stopping. They've had a week to prepare no game last night.

I feel like EVERYBODY struggles in that "building". Doesn't deserve to be called an arena or even a gym. I hate the layout and coaches on the baseline. I did notice the other night one of the two coaches actually coached from the "normal" coaches box. There is no rule that REQUIRES coaches to stand on the baseline with their team. Might not be a bad idea for visiting coaches going forward.

What center has Tennessee struggled stopping?
Before you say A.Morrow from LSU she’s not big or a center.
The player MTSU? She had a solid game but not a great one.
Last night the LVs pretty much controlled the boards and paint against Miss State who has about three players bigger than any post on Vandy’s team.
Last thing, who is this big center for Vandy?
I realize it’s more of projecting what certain people want to see as opposed to reality, but it still doesn’t make it less comical.

I worry that Pierre will put up 40 on us, and along the way draw so many fouls from our defenders that it gets easier and easier to score as the game goes along because our players will have to relax the pressure.

Hope I'm wrong, but this kid has multiple clever moves and doesn't give up easily when maneuvering for her shot under the basket. That kind of player is tough to guard without getting into foul trouble, and our posts tend to foul early and often. 😧

Keep worrying people nobody is losing sleep over all this gloating. I’m still waiting to hear of the big center this team has that will cause havoc to defend. Also how that’s even true when the LVs post out hustled and rebounded Miss State posts last night that is way bigger than Vandy.
Some of you are living a fantasy through basketball of all things smh.
It’s not that serious.
Just let the games play out. If we win move on. If they win move on.

It's a plus that Jill is playing much better and has played in that gym there before. We beat them pretty good there last year, though they're definitely better this year.

Yeah, Pierre was not the player last season that she is this season, though. She was obviously coached up in the off season. Moore is still a good scorer, and that freshman Blakes has been terrific.

It'll be interesting to see how Tennessee handles the whole Vandy thing. As people have pointed out, that gym alone is enough to throw a visiting team off kilter. I'm nervous already. Of course, I'm nervous before every game, so ...

OF COURSE WE WILL LET THE GAME PLAY OUT.

You seem to not understand how fan forums work.

Team looked comfortable playing their last season. Not sure if Ruby and Lazaria have faced Vandy before while playing in the ACC. It’ll be interesting to find out if they have it’s something I’ll look into.
I still think strongly that the best two way post player they’ll see until facing South Carolina is Hannah S from Iowa.
The LV posts in particular Latham and Hollingshead fared pretty well against Hannah S.
They will fare well against any player from Vandy. Just have to play four quarters and keep growing as a team.

Big problem for sure. Will see how we handle it. She has played like the best post player in the SEC so expect a tough day guarding her.

LSU struggled with her as she scored 28 points. Maybe we won't but I would think she certainly should be the center of attention in the game plan.

I sure haven't seen a post this season more persistent under the basket than Pierre. She's got a well-proportioned body -- kinda like Latham -- and she can move it quickly and confidently through even some pretty stout defenses until she can get a shot off. Any player with that type of dogged mentality is tough to guard -- even if they ARE just a Commodore. lol

Averaging 22.4 ppg and 56 percent so that is all you have to know. Got to push her out, double team, slow her down anyway we can. Any shot someone else is forced to take is certainly a lower percentage shot than hers. I'm saying we win, but we may be holding our breath on a last two minutes as it may be that close.

Hey, it's always possible she could have an off day at the same time our defense has a great one. She averages 22 points and 10 rebounds, so I'd count it as a major success if we held her to 20/8.

But Blakes or Moore, who average 20 and 13 points, could step up if Pierre struggles. And I guaranTEE Ralph will have them driving the lane hard like Higginbottom (and other guards before her) have done once they saw it worked well against us.

We'll see soon enough. I sure wish I could go, but I can't make it over there this year. 😩
