I was watching an old video of Tennessee versus Florida in 1990. And I noticed something. The visiting team entered Neyland Stadium before the Vols did. It had a much better effect because it got the boos out of the way, then when Tennessee ran in the stadium erupted and stayed that way.

The way we do it today, Tennessee runs in, it gets real loud, then the visiting team runs in and people start booing, which I hate. It shortens the moment. Does anyone know why we changed it? We need to go back to the old way Because that was a much better effect.

Yes, that’s a good question, and one I’ve thought about before. I’m don’t know of any specific “rule” that says when the entrances have to occur. Maybe there’s been an unwritten rule that coaches used as a code of conduct sort of thing.

I do feel like over the years that coaches made their entrances when they decided. Obviously, while in the locker room beforehand they are alerted to begin movement to the tunnel, then momentarily both teams have a very short window to get on the field. Some visiting coaches seemed to have shown good sportsmanship by allowing the home team to have their glory, while others tried to knowingly disrupt the cheering.

Go back and take a look at how UT used to enter through the power T back in the day. Much better before we relocated our entrance.

I think we’ve been coming out before the visitor since before Saban.

Back in the day, Majors versus the Bear, they would both stand at entrance to the field waiting on the other to run on the field. TV used to have to wait and wait for one to make a move. The band would be playing it seemed like 15 minutes...

no... I think it is more controlled by television now than anything else... they usually have someone there signaling when to go.

I'm with the OP. Hate it when the pinnacle of sound and emotion of the Big Orange running through the T is interrupted by boos for the other team. Wish something could be done to change it. Actually, I don't like booing the other team at all, but know that isn't going to change.

We are unlike any other place, NO ONE plays the other teams fight song so darn right I’m booing when the team enters!!

wish they could make it to where the visitors could only enter thru the a tunnel on their sideline instead of the south end zone....they and their flag carriers don't get to run on the field at all. Just pop out of the tunnel and there they are on their sideline.

There are plenty of “old ways” I wish would return for college football.
