Sam Pendleton signs with UT - OL transfer from ND

I know nothing about the guy. How solid of an addition is he?
I would say he’s the most important transfer pickup for us of the season . I may be wrong about that, but IMO for us to function offensively at the level we want, the O Line has to have the right pieces in place . I think he’s a proven guy who played a lot of snaps for one of the best offensive lines in the country.

Is this real? Or is he just playing the Buckeyes for more $?
Tate wants to be a #1 receiver; he’s never going to do that at Ohio State with Jeremiah Smith there. That’s coming from the Ohio state side. Texas and Oregon involved here; he has a close relationship with Tennessee and possibly a better chance at being the man here. If it breaks to just pure money, Texas Oregon would be hard to beat. Of course he could also get more from OSU. And his GF is at Oregon as well.

Think youre up to date on the rumors and speculation

Thanks for the update. I had heard that Texas and Oregon were involved. Didn’t know his GF was at Oregon, that’s tough to overcome . I’d love to the combo of Matthews and Tate. If we get Tate on the roster some of these Way Too Early Top 25 predictions are going to need to make room for us in the top 10, especially now that we’ve added 2 strong IOL.

Began the year starting but got beat out. Talent seems to be there, hopefully he can show it in Orange
That's not accurate. He was a redshirt freshman who played when the upperclassmen were hurt. Started 7 games and played really well. Other guys got healthy but a redshirt freshman with 3 years left to play who had significant playing time on a championship runner up (including snaps in the playoffs) is an absolute homerun.

I think here he has the strongest case of being the man. I think Matthews will be good though. If I had to guess I would say Oregon if he does leave Ohio State. He’s always going to be in Smith’s shadow there; smith is probably a top five pick if he were eligible right now.

Pendleton is a solid pick up,has 3 years to play, and can play multiple spots.
Overall,Moe grades out better but both are going to help.4 star in the middle ,right or left guard along with 2 5 stars on the bookends.
40% of our projected offensive line are 5 stars and best or second best OLine prospects in their respective classes-correct me if I'm wrong on that(Heard, Sanders)

He got benched this year, was a healthy scratch in the championship game. Moe will possibly be a preseason All American. Moe is the most important of our very few transfer additions to this point.

Great pick up.

Remaining needs:
Offense
WR - Carnell Tate?

Defense
DTs X 2

I think two WRs (preferably one older, experienced guy even if its depth piece) and one DT since we have Eason returning and D Bailey could move side too. I would be interested to see how we handle corner position with McCoy injury. Christian Charles can play corner too if needed.

Hey all - UT fan and ND grad here - Pendleton is a solid pickup for the Vols. As mentioned, we lost our starting LT in fall camp and shuffled the OL prior to the opener at TA&M. Pendleton won the job and played fairly well for the first 7 games.

When we got some vets back, he got bumped but did play a little in the Orange Bowl against Penn State when 2 OL went down.

He struggled a bit with penalties, but was only a true freshman and held his own against a very good A&M DL. He is very strong and a road grader in run blocking, but needs to work on his feet in pass pro.

John Brice says that he is a solid 4 star pickup for TN. He started 7 games at guard and was pushed out as older/veteran players came back from injuries later in the year. He took snaps at center for the last 8 games and started at center in their spring game.
Eligible for 3 years and should be a NFL draft pick if he stays healthy.

above all that a corner.

We have more than enough depth at WR for the number of guys we play.. if you bring someone else in, someone leaves so they better be good. Tate is wanting stupid money.

we have more depth at DT than most thing. Unless they just fall in love with someone I don't see that happening.

We are probably done in the portal till after spring because we are really tight on roster spots.

That’s awesome. We have two good to very good IOL additions. I think that adding an o lineman that has played meaningful snaps from a Notre Dame team that has a loaded offensive line isn’t a terrible thing .

Didn’t say it was a terrible thing. I’m just saying we have a very well regarded transfer already in place who is more of a sure bet.
