We should go get Chris Beard, Ole Miss's coach and make him turn us down. If he won't come, then other good options would be (in order of preference):

1. Mark Byington from Vandy
2. T.J. Otzelberger from Iowa State
3. Chris Jans from Miss. State
4. Patrick Kelsey from Louisville
6. Mike White from Georgia

We can outbid any of those schools. We have better facilities and a better chance of success and a higher ceiling as a program than any of them as well.

Thoughts?

I’m going to say something outrageous. I think we really need to go get Pearl back. I know there are a lot of folks split on that but you can’t deny how good he is.

He isn’t leaving Auburn and the UT board would never approve bringing back a coach who was fired for cause here even if he wanted to come back.

I don’t think Beard would have any interest and I think his Texas baggage would be too much of a turn off anyway. We are not Ole Miss - we don’t have to sell our soul to win.

It’s highly doubtful that an established P5 coach will leave for us. It will be a mid major guy.

I disagree. We are a much higher profile basketball program than any of those other schools, except maybe Louisville. We have a much higher ceiling for success as well, plus we have more money than most of them.

Kentucky couldn’t even get a big name and they’re arguably the biggest brand in the sport.

You are going to be sorely disappointed.

Whenever the job opens up, it will be easy to spot posters that deserve to be put on ignore. Anybody advocating to Bring Bruce Back is almost certainly a troll or an idiot.

We need to get a proven coach, period, and we shouldn't be too choosy about it. Beard's stuff is several years in the past. As long as nothing further happens in his private life, then we shouldn't turn our nose up at hiring him. The bottom line is that without a proven coach were headed back to Buzz, Cuonzo, Tyndale, O'Neill, Houston irrelevance.

FFS, get over Pearl.

He’s not coming back nor does he deserve it.

Nobody to blame but himself.

Would never happen in 274647373 years and a lot of people will say “I think you smoked a little too much”

But honestly, I 100% believe JJ Reddick would be great ass college coach. Surround him with kids that actually want to play instead of NBA divas and I think he would kill it.

As for who I think will coach after Barnes, I’ll say:
- English (not a great choice)
- Forbes
- I wouldn’t be surprised if Danny just hired his brother

This list seems to be a lot of flavor of the moment. Byington, Jans, Kelsey are doing well right this moment but neither have proven long term success at a high level. Those seem like knee jerk candidates. Mike White? You can't be serious.

Otzelberger is the only one on that list that I'd consider.

Lol Reddick isn't leaving the Lakers to come coach us.

Keep in mind, Danny White is a former D1 basketball player and fashions himself as a basketball guy. He hired Nate Oats at Buffalo and was confident enough to hire Caldwell for the women on her potential even with limited experience. This isn't Doug Dickey looking for a decent coach who won't outshine the football program. I think White would have a pretty good hire in hand should we need one.

Forbes and Mike White would be a disaster.

I'm with you! Best BBALL coach we've had in my lifetime. Nobody can honestly say they though he could get Auburn to the consistent level he has.
