I think Chaz is a great player but he doesn’t seem to have that “chip on the shoulder” that majority of our players have.
I hate to say it, but I think him being so close to home/family members and that he’s playing for TN may have eased up on him… meaning there’s less to prove now. Too comfortable in playing. Maybe too many distractions??

You coming awful close to using the 's' word to describe Chaz.
Just remember folks, he said it not me.😁

I don't believe Chaz is soft or he wouldn't be able to deal with Barnes' coaching method. The problem is that most guys playing with ZZ and Shack are going to look "soft" in comparison. Chaz is a laid back kid who doesn't wear his emotions on his sleeve like those two, and he's adjusting to an entirely different level of competition than he's ever experienced. He clearly could have used a year to prepare for this, and hopefully by March CRB & Co. will have found ways to get him freed up.

It’s kind of a Barnes player profile to sign “nice guys”. It’s a culture thing and probably why there is never a hint of off-court trouble. We just don’t have guys with a “dog” mentality. ZZ is our “dog”. We’ve lacked players like Grant Williams, Admiral and Lamonte Turner the last several seasons. Especially on the road you need guys with some attitude to overcome the crowd. It is what it is for better or worse.

Eh, nice guys can be aggressive players. We also had Uros Plavsic.

There are times he seems forget people will block his shots on drives or pick his pocket from behind. Hes a set shooter. Not a bad thing but he isn’t one to take over the game. I think the whole team relies too much on ZZ. They played aggressive when he went out of the UK game, when he comes back in the game they wait on him to create offense for them.

I give this the same amount of credibility as the post from several years ago that stated that Barnes was not a good coach because, for the most part, he sits quietly on the bench showing no emotion when he should be yelling and gesturing emphatically.

I think Mashack has a dog mentality. Cade seems to have it as well. Problem is both those guys can't put the round ball in the hoop on a consistent basis.

The whole team needs a chip.
They need to take it personally.
I think they were tired the other night after the exhausting game against auburn, but I didn’t see the fight. Mental fight. Trying to figure out a way.
Hopefully, they’ll bring some attitude Saturday and defend their home floor. Send the gators out with a resounding defeat.

I agree totally and when anyone breaks for the bucket there is no pass to them but not enough breaking to the basket in general. The offense is a twirl at the the 3 point line which goes no where mostly.

Hmmmm...I thought we were talking a tracking microchip here. Know he's not going to make anyone forget Knecht, but I thought Chaz certainly ain't no showing so badly that we need to chip him.

I kind of agree with this. ZZ, Mashack, Cade, Okpara, Estrella (if he was playing) all feel like they have that "fight" in them at all times. Chaz kind of looks lackadaisical for lack of a better word. No idea the reason. May just be his personality or me misreading him but I can't shake that feeling. I also get that feeling a little bit with Igor but I see flashes of fight in him.

He should have a chip to want to prove himself. He tried to go the NBA last year and was essentially told to go back to school. So he is now here. One would think NBA draft stock would be enough motivation to cause him play with a chip on his shoulder.

Personally, I just think this is his first year playing at this level. His quick release was always enough to get him shots against lower competition. But playing week in and week out against Quad 1 competition in the SEC will expose you. If he had another year to work on quick twitch agility he could be the best player in the country. Just failing to get as many open shots and to beat his man to the rim. Don't get me wrong, he has been an amazing addition and I am glad to have him. But I only can fathom how good he would be if Barnes had another year or two with him.

I would like to have watched some of his games in the ASUN. What you wrote above is exactly what goes through my mind, as I think he drove like that at North Florida and never saw competition like he's seeing. He needs to be a little more creative around the rim unless he's on a break away.

Good not great.
When I was in high school, we'd take a group of people to an elementary school with 8 foot rims. I was a _BEAST_ unstoppable. This is how I see it. Against the lower level teams, he's amazing. Against SEC/elite teams, he's just one of the guys. Commentary on sports talk today was that Knecht was a beast. I agree. He took over games. Win or not, he took it on himself.

Last year he shot 241 of 440 shots from the 3 point line. That’s 55% of his shots from 3. He was 44% from there. He’s always been a guy that looks to shoot from 3.
