What hole in our D did Mizzou find?
We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. Just frankly didn't look interested in it. Gave up open looks, got lost on switches, lazy on close outs, etc.
In the 2nd half, it felt like the pace picked up a bit, and both teams just shot the ball well. Mizzou hit about a month's worth of tough (some lucky) shots that were actually pretty well defended.
They also scored 19 points from the FT line because we were blessed with Don Daly and Doug Shows, both of whom are clown shoes officials. The final tally will show us with the foul advantage, but Mizzou committed 7 fouls in the final 2 minutes to extend the game by putting us on the FT line. There were no less than a half dozen uncalled travels committed by Mizzou. Three of Tennessee's "fouls" immediately come to mind that were phantom calls...literally no contact initiated by the Tennessee player. There was a missed goal-tending violation on Mizzou. They also missed a clear out of bounds off Mizzou that they even reviewed and still determined to be their ball. Just an absolute atrocity from the stripes.
I couldn’t believe that out of bounds call “stood”. Thank goodness we had built such a large lead (unlike at AU where Broome twisting FO and causing him to ”walk” contributed to us losing). We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. Yep, if we'd lost the game, the a$$wipe officials would be getting a lot of attention. We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. Just frankly didn't look interested in it. Gave up open looks, got lost on switches, lazy on close outs, etc.

I have been watching this closely over the season. It seems to me to be ignored more this year than in the past which was pretty bad. This season backcourt players are being allowed to "wander and shuffle" as much as the inside big less than graceful football players in the wrong sport. I have tried to keep count of misses on all the games I suffer with and I would say that likely 3 possessions out of five walking could/should be called! We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. I believe the Vols have faced counting Missouri 5 top 15 teams in a row. That is going to take alot out of you.We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. Just frankly didn't look interested in it. Gave up open looks, got lost on switches, lazy on close outs, etc.

About time. That used to be considered a cardinal sin, and we HAVE to lead the nation in that category. There's almost no way we don't, and no joke, I bet we've done it 20 times, this year. Mashack is the primary offender, too. Love his defense and hustle, but he's a freaking senior...you can't do that. We do it so much that even Jimmy Dykes made mention of it in the broadcast saying something to the effect of nearly every Tennessee game he's done, this year, has involved Tennessee fouling a 3-pt shooter, and Jimmy's done a lot of Tennessee games.Mizzou’s definitely got some guys who can put the ball in the basket and they aggressively defend - they’re a good team. A few unusual things happened that kept this game closer IMO besides the stupid end of game foul fest that is becoming too much the norm in these SEC officiated games.
1. What the heck is happening this season where every few games we have 10+ turnovers?
2. I can’t ever recall giving up at least 3 offensive rebounds off missed free throws?
3. Mizzou had an unusually large number of lucky shots; banked 3’s, banked free throws, awkward falling down shots. They also got a lot of lucky bounces where loose balls found their hands.
4. Once again Mashack fouls a 3 point shooter and it appears CRB awarded him much fewer minutes in the second half as a result.
Always is with those two.We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. Just frankly didn't look interested in it. Gave up open looks, got lost on switches, lazy on close outs, etc.

2nd half, I agree. 1st half, we just didn't come to play. The defense was bad. And we compounded the issue by turning the ball over 8 times, ourselves. There were a ton of shots taken. When we score 57 points in a half, the other team is going to have a lot of possessions as well.
Mizzou had very few turnovers, so they took a lot of shots. They still only ended up at 40% or so, and that is only because they were really hitting hard shots at the end.
Our defense wasn't really that bad on the shooters, we just didn't create turnovers like we usually do.
Eh, Mizzou actually shot worse in the 1st half than the second. They only shot 35% in the first half. All in all, they only scored 34 in the half. Generally, that is not too bad against a team that can shoot as well as the Tigers.2nd half, I agree. 1st half, we just didn't come to play. The defense was bad. Well, they actually shot 40.6% in the 1st half...the 35.3% was from 3. And, Mizzou started out ice cold (1-9), not scoring a single point before the first media TO, and only having 3 points 7 minutes in. So they essentially scored 31 of their 34 points in 13 minutes in the 1st half. In that 13 minute stretch, they shot 12-23 (52.2%).Eh, Mizzou actually shot worse in the 1st half than the second. You are absolutely right about those turnovers, the eight free possessions allowed the Tigers to get some extra shots in. Combine that with 3-4 bunnies at the rim that we couldn't finish (some of those might as well be considered turnovers), and we gave up a lot offensively.
I totally agree that our offense was trash in the first half. I think that clouds the otherwise tolerable defensive effort - defense kept us in a game that could have been ugly. About the only criticism I have of our D is the lack of turnovers, but some of that has to be attributed to Mizzou being careful with the ball.
If we valued the ball the way Mizzou did, and if we hit 2-3 of the layups we missed, we win by 20.
ZZ and Milicic were strong. IM, especially contributed in a way that, if he does that more consistently, makes us tough to beat.
My favorite BS foul last night was I think it was Bates who drove in out of control and just flung himself at Gainey who was trying to move away from him with his arms up and they called the foul on Gainey. Jimmy Dykes was like "I don't see the foul".
For the life of me I don't understand why this crap isn't more of a big deal. It's making it harder and harder to watch when they aren't consistent and call garbage like that. It's like they make up their mind to call a foul right when the offensive player starts to drive. Then 2 minutes later a guy gets clotheslined and nothing.
Who's worse, Shows or TV Teddy? We didn't defend worth a dime in the 1st half. Just frankly didn't look interested in it. Gave up open looks, got lost on switches, lazy on close outs, etc.
