He remembers that ass beating Johnny Majors put on him on NYD 1986?
He has talked about that game multiple times through the years
You honestly think he even remembers that?
Most coaches say they remember the losses more than the wins.
It seems that I watched a documentary and either he said or someone said he told them, that he knew that his team that year was actually overrated. When you lose a chance at national title. You never forget it.
I could be wrong, but I don't remember any TV or newspaper , locally or nationally that gave the Vols a chance. Most expected Miami to blow the Vols out. If they were overrated, the media certainly didn't think that. I seem to remember an interview with Terry Donahue where he claimed film study revealed that when 1 of their lineman placed his hand on the ground a certain way that play was a run. The hand placed a different way meant it was a pass.It seems that I watched a documentary and either he said or someone said he told them, that he knew that his team that year was actually overrated.
Now, does that diminish our VOLS-Sugar? Is that an excuse?
Not sure, but here is a nice tribute that Jimmy Johnson paid to coach Majors when he passed away. Majors was an assistant to Frank Broyles on the national championship 1964 Arkansas squad that included teammates, Jimmy Johnson and Jerry Jones. Coach Majors gave Johnson one of if not his very first coaching jobs as an assistant at Iowa State.

Sure, but that was such an ass kicking, its probably out of sight out of mind. The Fiesta Bowl the following year against PSU is probably the one that stings him the most. They completely dominated, but turnovers cost them the national title. Most coaches say they remember the losses more than the wins.
Oh yeah I guarantee you he remembers it. Just because he coached in the pros and won super bowls doesn’t mean he doesn’t remember his college experiences. Actually many players and coaches have said some of their happiest moments were in college. I know some in this group won’t understand that, but it’s the truth. In fact he has talked many times about them times.GBOYou honestly think he even remembers that?

You can watch the replay on YouTube. The pregame between Keith Jackson & Frank Broyles is classic. They talk 10 minutes before Tennessee was even mentioned.I could be wrong, but I don't remember any TV or newspaper , locally or nationally that gave the Vols a chance. That team was loaded. They just got outcoached. Donahue took them to school. Irvin, Jerome Brown, Blades, Testaverde, etc. They went 11-0 next year until Penn St beat them in Fiesta Bowl.It seems that I watched a documentary and either he said or someone said he told them, that he knew that his team that year was actually overrated.
