I know a lot of us have been looking for @OldTimer and hoping he would return at the start of the 2025 campaign.

He was last heard from here on Volnation on June 15 2024.

This was the day after the big comeback win over FSU where the Vols scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 9th to beat the Seminoles.

I pray he is okay.

Did any of you have the pleasure of meeting him?

Have any great OldTimer stories you might want to share with the rest of us?

I know he was loved by all of us and is truly missed.

The start of the season just wasn’t the same with OT’s absence.

💔

This will prolly be one of the least insightful comments because I’ve known him for less time than most. But I read his "For New/Infrequent Posters" thread several times when I started posting in this forum, and it really gives the lay of the land. Also I’ve asked OT numerous questions, and he has always been so helpful and treated me like I was one of the gang, even being a newbie. I paid attention to everything he said, like I do with certain others. Not seeing him here makes me sad. Hoping for the best.

Very insightful and I felt the same way. He helped me feel at home here in the baseball forum.

OT's comments in that thread were exactly what the baseball forum was for many years. Old Timer is one of several people that made it such.

I have always greatly enjoyed all of OT's contributions to this board, including his witty comments, running of pick 'em (including charity points for mad), and of course that he initiated what became the dugout thread. I certainly hope everything ok, although I am concerned. I do recall that he had to abruptly end pick 'em last year before the postseason began and that he made a comment before that about it being hard to manage. let's hope all is well for OT.

That reminds me.
I have wondered about OT, as well. I knew where he lived because he had sent me some prizes from the pick ‘em contest. Had corresponded with each other by email as well. My last email to him went unanswered and that was about a week after he had emailed me. I checked the obituaries yesterday and did find someone in his area with his exact name. I hope I’m wrong, but it seems to be quite possible he has passed. Hopefully, I’m wrong. If so and he sees this, he will definitely jump my case. I debated posting this, but felt that everyone would like to know something.

🙏 Really hate to hear that. Prayers up for him and his family, regardless. I hope his family knows what he meant to this community.

I appreciate this. I don’t post a ton over here, but I certainly lurk - maybe spend more time here than the other forums! OT is a name I know more than just about anyone.

I really hope if this is true, and it certainly seems like there’s a good chance it is, that he was able to experience what our team delivered last year. Even if he didn’t in the traditional sense, I’m sure he got the best seat in the house to see it happen anyway.

As others have said, I hope his family knows how much he meant to so many people here. Even those of us who weren’t in the thick of the baseball forum posting every day, his impact was immeasurable. Yeah it’s an Internet forum, but it’s the best community I’ve been part of since I got on the Internet in the late 90’s. Prayers up for OT and his family.

I’m so sad to hear of his passing. He was a great contributor to Volnation and I’m sure, an outstanding person. i hope he was able to enjoy a Vol NC before he passed.

If he was in Knoxville, I think I figured it out from recent obituaries. He was obviously a UT fan, and the profession he retired from made him adept with spreadsheets in running the pickem contests. He knew the Bearden community based on our interactions. Of course, like everyone, I’d be happy for him to pop up here soon.

I enjoyed his level headed nature, knowing what had been, and appreciating the present program.

It’s really the only answer. He was a long suffering BaseVol fan. Nothing else would keep him away from here after finally winning it all. I’d love to read the obituary and know who the man was in real life. He was very special to me here. I feel real sadness. Vol Nation is a little less interesting in his absence.

If you’re uncomfortable putting the obituary on here, I’d appreciate if you’d text it to me.
