NOTABLE

Dominant Opening Weekend
The Vols dominated in all facets during their season-opening sweep of Hofstra, outscoring the Pride 46-2 for the series. UT's 46 runs were its most in a series since plating 68 in a sweep of Iona in 2022 and its most in a season-opening series since outscoring Morehead State 54-1 over three games to start the 2004 campaign.

The pitching staff was equally impressive, allowing just two runs on seven hits for the series, marking the fourth time under head coach Tony Vitello and pitching coach Frank Anderson that the Vols have allowed four runs or fewer in a season-opening series (2019, 2020, 2022, 2025).

Non-Conference Dominance
Tennessee has been extremely hard to beat in non-conference play during Vitello's tenure. Since the start of the 2019 season, the Vols are 123-23 in non-conference play. UT went 32-3 against non-SEC foes during the 2024 season, including an 8-1 mark in the postseason.

The Big Orange have not lost a regular-season non-conference weekend series since 2020 (Wright State) and have swept 12 of their 14 regular-season non-conference weekend series since 2020. Tennessee is 64-10 in midweek games under Vitello, as well.

Decade of the Vols

Why has Kuhns not pitched yet
due to an illness that he woke up with on the morning of the season opener.

"A lot of guys have gotten sick on our team and I think a lot of people have gotten sick in Knoxville, unfortunately," Vitello said. "I'm not a doctor, so I don't know if it's the cold or what's going on. He's been floating around the facility, and he tried to come up here and get in uniform (Saturday). We appreciate the competitiveness, but it's not the time of the year to be pushing it. Also, we want to limit how many guys get sick. When he comes back, he'll be champing at the bit and I look forward to it. He is a fun one to watch compete."

Has A.J. Russell healed enough to pitch? He's had bad luck with injuries. Lots of arm power there!
I think he’s now throwing to hitters in practice but don’t expect him back until FL series and very limited with pitch count. I’m sure they will ramp him up slowly and carefully. He’s put on 20 lbs of muscle and looks great.
