No not RB but the Indiana job is already open and some rumors out of Kansas that Self might be thinking about retiring

We have the Untouchables like Barnes, Pearl, Oats, Golden Calipari, Pope and Byington. Plus I doubt Buzz Williams would leave A&M.

So that leaves 3; Jans at MSU, Beard at Ole Miss and Dennis Gates at Mizzou as Prime candidates to jump.

Jans has done a remarkable job at the toughest place to win in the SEC. Plus he's not even the #1 school in the poorest and dumbest state in the country. Which makes his sweep of Ole Piss even more remarkable.

Beard would be the slam dunk for any school almost if he just didnt have this habit of beating up his girl friend. Still Kansas has shown by keeping Self after his scandal that character and integrity dont matter much in Lawrence.

Gates is having a remarkable season after the disaster that was last year. Plus he checks the Diversity box unlike the others.

Plus IMHO if we made a run like to the FF or EE I think RB would consider retiring to the North Carolina mountains.

Looks like an interesting off-season coming up with NIL and the Portal effect.

Pearl made it known years ago that Indiana would be his dream job if ever the opportunity arose.
So, there's that...

He said it was his dream job, and indicated he felt that back when he was early in his coaching career, so probably around when he was here. That was 15-20 years ago. I doubt it's his dream job anymore. He is set at Auburn and probably wants to work out that his silver spoon son gets the job when he hangs it up because that's the only way Stevie P is getting a HC gig.

You can just pull a Bob Knight and retire during the season or right before it. I do really want to see Steven crash and burn at Auburn though. There’s an Auburn contingent that has convinced themselves he will keep the train rolling.

He gets a Natty at Auburn and he would never leave. He'd be a made man at that point. He'll have his legacy and all the money he could for as far as coaching salary.
It goes South at Auburn after that, he retires.

But you have to live in a small town in Alabama.

Neither Indiana nor Kansas will touch Beard

Just curious what makes Mark Byington untouchable?

Whether he wins or not, he can name his price and not live in a cow pasture any longer.

I wouldn’t rule out Bruce going to Indiana.

I think they will aggressively pursue May as their #1 and I think May wants that job, but it may just be financially impractical with buyouts etc… where he just got hired

So that’d make Bruce their #2 target IMO and I do think he will listen.

I don’t think Bruce is worried about job security regardless of whether he is at Auburn or steps up to a blue blood.

He got involved with some jobs while he was here at Tennessee and could’ve retired here had he not self destructed.

Barnes is probably now considered the best coach (or at least on par with Mears - different eras so hard to compare) in UT history and can retire on his own terms but would’ve been gone to UCLA if they weren’t cheapskates on his buyout.

Sometimes the allure of a blue blood really matters to a coach and I think Pearl maybe one of those guys. He’s been denied that opportunity in the past due to his baggage and there will only be a couple more opportunities. Indiana probably more desperate than UNC/Kansas to take in someone with his past.

Is Indiana really even a blue blood anymore?
I mean, that prestige is not what it used to be.
NIL and portal changing everything.

They haven’t had the recent success but I’d say so. They are still in the most basketball crazed region in the country. I wouldn’t compare them to a Nebraska football which is probably never returning to form.

They remain a top national basketball brand with rabid fans, huge tradition and donors who want to win. That’s more than enough to attract a great coach if the money is right.

They also showed they were willing to pony up on the NIL front this season. They just don’t have a coach.

With a whole lot less chance at a Natty for his legacy. Whether he admits it or not, he wants that Natty. Auburn gives him the better shot at that.
There is nothing about Auburn that makes it an easier place to win a championship. He turned around recruiting there in a couple of years. It’s a backwater with no draw except the money and the coach. It’s a pretty easy place to top.
