Nebraska Series Cancelled

Business decision as usual. I still remember us cancelling the Army game so we could replace them with Akron. Even though they were disappointed, I thought this quote from Army’s coach showed quite a bit of class at the time:

“Tennessee’s got to do whatever (they) think is best for their program,’’ Monken said at the Thursday press conference. “That’s just the way it is. … It’s just part of the business, it’s part of college football. I didn’t think twice about it.’’

It all boils down to making the playoffs now. If we win 10 games in this league, then we are likely in most years. Expect more of this in the future from other ADs around the country.

Nebraska should be more concerned about making the Green Monster or Pinstripe bowl than the CFP.

Matt Rhule doesnt want to head into make or break season with these games on the schedule.....
Good point but he does have a proven track record in college. I don’t necessarily think he makes that third year leap like he did at Baylor, however, 9 wins wouldn’t shock me. Rhule sees Indiana making the playoffs with a crap schedule and is thinking he can do the same thing. Tennessee would have won this game imo.

Deep down, I dont think we want to be breaking in a new QB in Lincoln....

We swap out MSU for Texas in 2026 so I dont think we're too upset about it (other than having to find another team)

I am thinking about our playoff chances as well, not just Nebraska.
If the rules change to what’s being proposed all we need to do is be a top 4 SEC team to make the CFP and we’re in. This game would make in impact if we were at an at large part of the selection and it was a resume builder. This is why I think the SEC and B1G need to have a scheduling agreement .

Possible replacement(s)?

If they are going to do a home and home with another P4 school these are the only ones with openings

Boston College
Florida State (plays Bama in 26 and UGA in 27, very unlikely)
Pitt
Stanford
TCU
Notre Dame
USC (has 1 non conference game open in 27 but that probably will be Notre Dame)
Washington
