I realize that. It’s a fallacy. Since conference tournaments began, more national champs have won their conference tournament than lost early to “rest up.”

This thread a sounding board for those with that mindset to be heard. It’s been posted many times by several that nothing else besides the NCAAT matters. Same fellers that like to say “Regular Season Rick” I’d reckon. When it’s not that difficult for teams I’d never heard of before or can’t find on a map (UMass, Utah, George Mason, Butler, VCU, Wichita State, Loyola, San Diego State, Florida Atlantic) to sneak into a FF, I look at it as a separate, made for TV event that rarely has the best team being the last one standing.

Need to try to win this thing. Possible to get a 1 seed. Too much time off I think we become cold shooting.

Sankey should have learned his lesson by now and moved the championship game to Saturday. That one day makes a big difference when considering that one day will be lost, or at least severely disrupted, when traveling to the venue. Unless you’re Duke and they get to take an Uber to their first round games.

Go win the thing but if they don't then go out early. The worst scenario is to play till Sunday only end up with a second place trophy.

Play the bench and get rested for the ncaat. The sec tournament is all about money. It also gives a lesser team the opportunity to sneak into the tournament depriving a better/more deserving team of a spot. The regular season champ is the real champ. The only tournament I care about is the ncaat.

Nice job, Cav. You tricked helmet head into believing we have a bench.

Individuals spewed the same nonsense about tanking the SEC tournament in baseball last season. Save your arms, get them rest yada, yada, yada.

Well Vols won SEC tournament and then took the National Championship, shows how much arm chair fans really know...

IMO, for a team that only plays 8 players, save it for the NCAA. The selection committee has proven many times the conf tournament hardly changes the seedings.

The Conference Tourney pretty much means nothing for top seeded teams- as we have witnessed many times over. With only eight guys playing for us I say try to win a game and let the rest fall as it may. Tenn needs to go 3-1 with the last four regular sec games and need to beat turd at home next saturday for sure.

I'm never going to want UT to lose, but the SECT means very little to me. I'm good with whatever gives us the best seed, some needed rest, and no injuries.

Sometimes even through the second weekend.

This is my position also. Unless your on the NCAA bubble or a predicted low seed, history shows that winning the league tourney rarely changes your seed. I would not risks injuries and let the injured get healthy. If a 1 or 2 seed is locked in take it and rest.

And the same goes for football. The full season grind was always good enough to determine a champ before they created these made for money events.

The only somewhat legitimate argument in favor of post season events to determine a league champ is that the leagues are so big that you don't get to play everyone. But to me, that's more of an argument to go back to smaller regional conferences where you see everyone once a year in football, and for a home and home in hoops. But that's beyond moot at this point.

I know people have disagreed with me, but in this particular year, it may decide who gets a higher seed or do I stay closer to home or am I in the west region.

For instance, assuming standings stay where they are, if Florida won the SEC tournament, they’d move ahead of Alabama on the 1 line.

Now again, for me, I care more about what the bracket looks like than location. But, we have no way to know whether it’s advantageous to be the 1 seed in the west or the 2 seed in the East (as an example).

All this debate about the 1 seed, and when the bracket is released, you will wish you were the 3 seed somewhere else.

However, if you are a 1 seed, the rest thing is kind of a moot point. Would you really think the 1st round matchup is an issue? And would you think fatigue would still be a problem for the 2nd round?
