Status of Cooper injury?

I'm not giving up on them but I was never very high on them to start with. Too many weak minded girls, IMHO. would have liked to see what kind of effort little Darby and Strickland could have given us against quicker little guards. Spencer and Spear gave very little, imho

I sat behind the TN bench when they played at UF. Talaysia didn't look right. She had a scowl on her face the entire time she was on the sideline - whether she was playing or not. Looked very unhappy... saw the same against UK. I can't help but wonder if she transfers at the end of the year. And I hope the answer is a resounding no!

Strickland was blown by every time she was in the game at Kentucky and again yesterday. She's two steps slower than Spencer and Spear, at least.

Younger Darby isn't a D1 player. She was given the opportunity to be a practice player and has been great at that.

agree on both accounts

Strickland is a high energy medium skilled player who needs a coach to focus her summer on building defensive posturing and confidence in driving,,,she has a decent 3 shot,,,but I have never seen a mid-range shot

Darby needs to accept that she is not going to be more than what she is here and go have fun finishing her collegiate time on a court at a mid-level conference

Agree on the premise regarding Strickland, but Spear also has real issues with speed and quickness that isn’t much different than Darby and Puckett. Fortunately she is a great three point shooter.

Darby has accepted her role, she knew what it was going to be coming into college. She knew what was going to be asked of her with the new staff as well. If she had wanted to transfer to UTM or UTC so she could play, she probably would have done that, but earning her degree from Tennessee is more important.

Ok, but Strickland is a step slower than even Darby or Puckett. No offense to her, but she's not a defender. She's a catch-and-shoot perimeter shooter. There's nothing wrong with that. But trying to make her more than that isn't productive and it's why she didn't get in the rotation until someone got hurt.

I wasn't sure if the scholarship was a paid one...if it is, indeed, stay close to home and enjoy your experience

Darby's are 12 miles from UT Martin they both could've played there on scholarship. Tess got one at Tennessee and Edie chose to come in as a walk on. She knew she wouldn't be playing much here. Might have played more for Harper. Caldwell has recruited over several players on this team lucky some of them are seniors. The real Caldwell team gets more of a start next season. We won't be shooting in the thirties and the speed of the team will be much improved.

Not many kids will transfer down if that’s an option over the opportunity to stay.

I’m afraid she’s gone too. Idk what happened but something went off the rails internally.

She just dd ths intervew 2 weeks ago. Doesn't sound like there is anything wrong. She isn't going anywhere.

Talaysia Cooper joins Vol Club Confidential
I really loved this interview. I think she is a special player and person. Hope she is being easy on herself mentally with the injury. This is such a critical stage of human development, and to feel so much pressure to play, let alone potentially carry your team, when injured is less than ideal.

Man I agree, I watched that too. She’s sounded positive in interviews but her body language during games and on the sideline speaks volumes. Doesn’t look like a happy camper.

Would you have looked like a happy camper in the last two games? She is player who wants to win and is obviously frustrated over how things are going. I would be far more concerned if she was all smiles while her team is getting obliterated by KY.

She has always looked like that. I have never seen her demeanor be anything other than what it is. She might just be one of those people whose affect is misleading. Rickea was similar, if to a lesser degree. We will see soon enough.

But yeah, it is obvious a lot of the problems we have are mental and emotional. This team gets in its own head and its feelings too much and loses focus. That is why it is hard to sort out what the system involves. A good example is in the last game we had two players back, Hollingshead and another. They both let a player behind them when the other team broke the press even though it was obvious their job was to prevent that. They did just not get deep enough. I see a lot of that. Players being out of position. The system will give up some of that, but in that case it was not the system, it was the execution.

Objectively, I think Kim's first regular season was a push. She earned some equity with the UConn win and then squandered it with where we finished in the league standings and by losing to a team that doesn't even have a pulse. How this season is looked at now will depend entirely upon how we do in the tournaments, and we are playing our worst ball since early in the season going into them.

It will be interesting to see how the team responds.

Well okay but your humble opinion is silly. I know that is kind of your lane on here but please! That take is way out of left field even for you.
Weak minded?!? These players were tough minded enough to work, practice and study at a level to receive a full scholarship to play for the Lady Vols! Any student athlete in D1 is essentially working a full time job and being a full time student with gpa requirements. I might mention that not always but generally our LVs are very good students.
Do they experience doubts or frustrations that can sometimes impact their performance on any given night? Yes they do but that makes them human (in some cases still teens) not weak minded.
Questioning Spear and Spencer’s effort is beyond the pale! They both transferred here and have given their all for UT! We should be so thankful for their efforts and leadership!
Geeez!!

It’s an exercise in futility to worry about players transferring based on body language or anything else in the modern game. There are lots of kids that are very happy where they are that will get a big offer from a school that needs them more in the off-season and they will be gone. There are lots of unhappy kids at a lot of schools that will stay where they are because they are already getting the best offer they will get, or they get a little bit extra to stay. There are a lot of players That are somewhere in the middle. Somebody leaving or staying is no longer primarily about how happy they are or aren’t or how they fit in with their team. Just the reality of college sports today. And spending one second during the season worrying about who is going to be on the team next year is just going to drive you crazy, it doesn’t really matter.

Bravo!!

On the "weak minded girls" versus Avery Strickland and Edie Darby, I wonder if the perception of "weak minded" is correlated with some other variable....

a brief scan of this thread seems to show we are already throwing everyone off the team and looking to next year. not me. yes, there appears to be some chemistry issues that weren't present earlier in the season, but i am not ready to conclude it's over for this year. go lady vols.
