This after a G League Championship as an assistant to Jerry Stackhouse with the Toronto Raptors and a stint as head coach of the Grand Rapids Drive, Detroit's G league team at the time. He returned to junior college ball simply because he would rather deal with college players.

Dude could always coach. That wasn’t the problem

Tyndall was elite drawing up plays in timeout. May be the best we ever had
Tyndall imo was a good coach. Rick Barnes definitely is a lot better, but if Tyndall never got into trouble, I think he would have Tennessee as a top 25 team, not elite like with Barnes but good enough

The only thing I don’t like about Tyndall was his zone trap defense. It left good shooters open too much. I recall Kornett from Vandy hitting about 10 3s in the corner in the first half at TBA. Game was over at halftime. It happened a couple times that year. That d might work at lower levels but SEC guys can hit if you leave them open

He would’ve won some here, but I absolutely would prefer Barnes and think he’s done more than Tyndall would have. I think Tyndall would’ve had moderate success, though.

In reality, his defense is what made him successful in the G League and in college. He is a defensive mastermind. His defense was an improvement of Rick Pitino's Louisville defense. When he was head coach at the Grand Rapids Drive, his team led the entire 30 league in scoring defense. There is nothing out there quite like it. The opposing point guard is unable to tell if his team is playing zone or man to man. It is that good!
