So in the Midwest Regional in Indianapolis, the top four seeds all advanced.
Normally, you’d think that the higher ranked teams would be closer to home. But, boy howdy, that is not the case here.

#1 seed Houston is 1,014 miles from Indy
#2 seed Tennessee - Knoxville is 358 miles from Indy
#3 seed Kentucky - Lexington is 189 miles from Indy.
#4 seed Purdue - W.Lafayette is 68 miles from Indy.

Somehow this seems wrong to me.

Eh, Auburn got the #1 overall seed so they were slotted in Atlanta. You can't predict who's making the Sweet Sixteen, so is this any worse than placing Tennessee (and, moreover, the one seed Houston) in Newark or San Francisco?

Purdue probably shouldn’t be playing in Indy, but other than that, there’s nothing egregious about the placement.

AU will pack that arena where the Hawks play.

This is a dumb take. If you want to play this game 2/3 of the 68 teams in the tournament would be placed in the South or Midwest. Nobody knows who is going to win their first two games. If we can’t win two games next weekend in a football stadium I can assure you it won’t be because of the crowd.

This. The setup for this game will be kinda goofy given it’s in such a big venue. It’s not Rupp. Even the mostly Kentucky crowd won’t have much of an effect on the game. The sound will disperse quite a bit in a large stadium.

Purdue should have been slotted elsewhere. You could have flipped them and Maryland without a bracket issue....

No qualms with the rest.
Purdue was ahead of Maryland on the S-curve, hence they get preferential treatment when it comes to being placed closest to their natural region. That’s why they’re in the Midwest and Maryland was sent to the West.

Yeah, just not a big believer in giving them such a huge potential advantage. Just like Louisville should have never been placed in Rupp.

They can and do make adjustments like this all the time to the curve to prevent this (or to avoid conference rematches early or BYU plsying on Sundays, etc)...

BYU not playing on Sundays is a joke.
I’m sure there are some athletes whose religion discourages them from working on Saturdays but they still play games on Saturdays.
If BYU gets put in a Friday/Sunday bracket and they don’t want to play on Sundays, that’s fine. They can forfeit.

Im fine with it. They should never get a favorable accommodation for it though (i.e, if they have the profile of a 6 seed, they shouldnt get bumped up to a 5 to avoid Sundays)

The regionals are not placed well.
That being said, it’s just wrong for the top seed to have to play 1,000 miles away from home against the fourth seed playing an hour from their campus. That’s just wrong. Sorry, not sorry.
Which #1 seed would you switch Houston with to ensure both are playing close to home? Alternatively, which cities would you award regionals to on March 16th to take the place of the locations already determined years in advance - to ensure the teams seeded on the 1-line don’t have to face this competitive travesty?

My bigger issue was having a 2-3 from same conference in the same region and 2 1s on same side so Florida and Auburn if chalk held up only one SEC team advances and Tennessee and Kentucky should be in different brackets if you truly feel they are 2s and 3s. March is great time to see other matchups and if Tennessee and Kentucky were meant to match up it should be down the road. It was almost like the concession for putting 14 teams in from SEC is they made sure we would cross paths much sooner than necessary to keep from having a log jam of SEC teams at end.

Purdue shouldn’t be in the Midwest region.

Looking a little closer, I do think it's
suspicious how Iowa St, a #3 seed, was put in the South Bracket (Atlanta) instead of the midwest (Indy)

It was also convenient to put Wisconsin, another #3 seed, behind Kentucky and place them in the East bracket (New Jersey).

Hmmmmm....

Sidenote: Why was Arizona in the east region and Maryland in the west region? Both were #4 seeds. Yet they put Purdue, who is also a #4 seed, in Indianapolis.
