Smart. Regardless, signals to the team - "Winning this thing isn't about me. Don't win it for me. Win it for you." Nobody needs that extra pressure. I'm remembering what Duke looked like 3 years ago when they were playing for the legacy of the Great and Powerful Coach K.

I agree that this statement means only what it means, and nothing more or less. "At this time I plan on being back" only counts in the moment its said, right? "It's not now" is temporal. In the moment. It's experienced PR language. And that's whatever, it's fine. It doesn't matter. I don't have any problem with Barnes doing whatever, he doesn't owe anyone an answer or an explanation for whatever he's going to do. But people wanting to read too much into that are just telling themselves what they want to hear.

The only thing to do is support them now, back them now, and then wait to see how it shakes out after. No expectations. Only opportunities.

Fair, he might’ve hedged a little. As far as coach speak goes though, he could have been a lot more vague.

Exactly. it's not a question a coach can honestly answer until a season is over. All the recruits will bolt on you

When was the last time we went to the elite Eight two years in a row? And to see the team who knocked us out last year (Purdue) get beat this time around was icing on the cake ! Darn, no rematch with them too.

I think he could easily stick around for 900 wins, and I doubt he cares at all about that. I also think he could stick around and have a role in 10-20 more Vols competing, and pushing themselves to be the best version of themselves and being good men, and I think he cares a great deal about that.
