Nate oats is a 1 trick pony

If you read ESPN it was due to Duke’s defense, not AL’s 3 point ineptitude. Of course if it was TN winning it was due to the other team having an off night.🙄
Yep, it's funny when we beat Duke in the tourney Bilas was saying UT was playing football on the hardwood. Duke plays aggressive D and mucks it up this year and all of sudden its brilliant.

Bilas would really complain about this years team. I don’t think Duke could handle this teams physicality.

I agree with y'all but at the same time, Duke has the better team.

They didn't lose this game because of Oats or his style of play.
Certainly Duke was the better team. To be fair though, Oats’ style of play is to drive and/or shoot 3’s. Very little in between. Take those away (as we also did) and it’s a lot harder for Bama. Duke made it hard to do either one and Bama/Oats had no answer. No adjustments available because Bama can’t play any other way. So to me, their style of play played a part in the loss along with Duke’s superior talent.

Agree. Duke has 5-6 players who will be in the NBA, including probably the next generational player. What did Scheyer do to outcoach Oats other than roll out as talented and loaded a CBB team as we've ever seen?

I know everybody wants to stomp on Bama's grave, but anyone who watched that game could see right away it was going to be really hard for Bama to even make it competitive.

There's a reason the championship metrics always feature highly ranked D and O from the winners. Alabama/Kentucky had terrible defensive metrics. That was always going to cap them. Everyone still standing has a top 10 defense.

Thank you. As pointed out earlier by another, that was my original point. Oats has only 1 plan & it’s the same every game. Barnes has won the last 4 vs him even though Bama was at least equal, maybe better, in talent. Duke used the same plan Barnes uses, push them off the 3 line & beat them in the 2 pt game.

It's called dribble-drive and Calipari was infamous for running it at Memphis and then Kentucky. Alot of SEC programs play that way. We are the exception.

Oats has one really good 3 point shooter, Sears, who had an off night, or Dukes defense shut him down for most all the game. He was taking nearly every shot late in the second half.

Duke is a TALL order. If we are able to get past Houston today, they will be a handful. I think our defense can give them some issues that they haven’t seen this year, but I agree with you, they are a heck of a basketball team.

If his team can run & get open shots, especially 3, they’re tough. Get him in a rock fight & he might as well sit on fraternity row.

Duke coach embarassed him tonite.
It wasn't a coaching embarrassment. It was a player embarrassment. They got schooled because Duke has better players all over the court. Whatever Oats tried to minimize the talent difference didn't work. Oats' style might need some modifications, but you can't make big time changes to your style this late in the tournament, AND after blowing out BYU. If Bama would have made more shots, it would have been much closer. I guess I could agree that style could lead to an embarrassment against a team that is top ten on D and O
