2024-25 Tennessee pre-season ranking: #12
2024-25 Tennessee finish: Elite 8

*I did not count teams twice, so if they made the final four, I did not include them in the elite 8, etc.

Overall Record: 30-8
Record against Final Four teams: 2-4 (Auburn, Florida and Houston)
Record against Elite 8 teams: 1-0 (Alabama)
Record against Sweet 16 teams: 2-3 (Arkansas, Kentucky, and Ole Miss)
Record against Round of 32 teams: 4-0 (Baylor, Illinois, Texas A&M and UCLA)
Record against Tournament teams: 10-1 (Georgia, Missouri, Mississippi State, Montana, Norfolk State, Oklahoma, Texas, Vanderbilt and Wofford)

Combined record against tournament teams: 19-8 (71% of the schedule!)
Record against non-tournament teams: 11-0

Two seasons in a row Tennessee has beaten both a 7 seed and 3 seed before losing to a 1 seed.

In February and March, Tennessee went 12-4 against tournament teams only losing to two final four teams (both neutral side games) and two sweet 16 teams (both true road games). Tennessee went 2-2 against final four teams in the last two months of the year.

Pretty pretty pretty good.

We really played most of the year like around the 5th best team. As disappointing as it is not getting over the EE hump, we really ”played to our level” the last two years. It would have been nice not to no show for the first half Sunday but it would likely have taken an extraordinary effort to win that game. Houston seemed content to trade baskets in the second half and anytime we mounted any kind of threat, they turned it up a notch and knocked us back down. If we play our “normal game“ we probably lose by 4-6 points.

Also props to KenPom. At the end of the day, their rankings are pretty much spot on With how the tourney was seeded and played out.
