Aaron is really good guy but mostly focused on ACC baseball. I have talked UT baseball with him several times and I don’t think he is Vol hater at all.

Fitt absolutely hated our super team with Gilbert and Beck. He rarely gets out of the Carolinas and Rogers rarely out of Texas as far as coverage. We seemed liked the new kids on the Block ruffling feathers and not a traditional blue blood. He may be a good dude, just saying how he was in 22

A lot of folks despised the 2022 team. The baseball traditionalists really hated on them. They were the villains and embraced that role. They were brash, edgy, extremely confident (some would say arrogant), and celebrated like no other team in NCAA baseball. No doubt they helped grow the game!

Personally, I loved that team as they were so exciting to watch and you never knew what they were going to do next. However, can you imagine if they were one of our competitors? We would have hated them! 🍊🍊😀😀👍👍👊👊😀🍊🍊🍊

No doubt, that team crossed several lines that for me were too far, (like the Beck bird and Gilbert's telling ump he sucked) especially if I was a coach. I will say that attitude gave them an edge and never were intimidated. Went against those Arkansas and Vandy boys and thankfully changed that story.

Anyone watch Southeastern 16? They cover the major men’s sports in the SEC. They make their own rankings once a week or so. It’s a pretty good podcast, but Chris sometimes irritates me because he seems to struggle giving TN their flowers. He was one of the last people to drop A&M holding on for dear life lol.

Thx for the heads up!

Joe Healy from D1 is pretty damn good and does a weekend update every day of the weekend and can be found for free on youtube, usually does a live if you have questions as well. Think he was in Columbia this past weekend and had good content

Healy is definitely a student of the game with good content but damn if his podcast doesn't put me to sleep.

One could argue that team went over the edge and it contributed to possibly the best college team ever getting knocked out.

I remember Fitt going on a bit of a rant after the bat sticker controversy at Vandy. He said what he hated most was that once again they were talking about the Vols for controversy and antics instead of what an incredible baseball team they were. I could see his point. He's been very complimentary of this 2025 team.

This is from Fitt's Mid Season Report for D1 Baseball....

Best Coaching Job

Tony Vitello, Tennessee

Unlike recent defending national champs from the SEC (Mississippi State, Ole Miss and to a lesser extent LSU), the Volunteers have avoided the championship hangover — emphatically. The Volunteers opened their title defense by reeling off 20 straight wins (the longest winning streak in college baseball this season), and they sit atop the D1Baseball Top 25 at the midway point with a 27-2 overall record and an 8-1 SEC mark. And that’s particularly impressive considering how much talent Tennessee lost from a year ago: their top five hitters (Blake Burke, Christian M oore, Dylan Dreiling, Kavares Tears and Billy Amick) are gone, plus the entire weekend rotation (Zander Sechrist, Drew Beam, Chris Stamos) and three of their most important bullpen arms (AJ Causey, Kirby Connell and Aaron Combs).

No matter.

This is a much different team than it was a year ago – but it is once again the best team in college baseball, at least to this point.

Vitello established himself as an elite recruiter years ago — first at Missouri, then at TCU and Arkansas. And he has continued to recruit at the highest level in Knoxville, even as the nature of recruiting has changed in the transfer portal era — nobody in college baseball is better at building a championship-caliber roster than Vitello and his staff. They also excel at player development and getting the most out of their players, but it all starts with talent procurement, and the Vols just keep on acing that test. This year’s batch of newcomers — from transfers like Gavin Kilen, Andrew Fischer and Liam Doyle to blue-chip freshmen like Levi Clark, Jay Abernathy, Manny Marin and Tegan Kuhns — has performed at a stunningly high level, allowing Tennessee to keep on rolling despite all of those departures from last year’s title team.

So sure, Tennessee isn’t exactly a surprise team — far from it. But sustaining this level of dominance, despite all the turnover, is a remarkable feat.

Chris Lee covers Vandy (or at least used to be a beat reporter for them), so I'm never surprised when he's not quick about giving the Vols their props. That said, he's usually pretty fair in his opinions.
