NOTABLE

Another No-No
For the second time this season, Tennessee tossed a combined no-hitter as Liam Doyle and Dylan Loy mowed through the Texas A&M lineup in a 10-0, seven-inning run-rule win in front of a record-setting crowd of 6,544 last Friday night at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

The no-hitter was the first by an SEC team in league play since Vanderbilt threw a combined no-hitter in a win over Kentucky on April 22, 2022. This is the second time in UT history that it has recorded multiple no-hitters in a single season with the other occurrence coming in 1976 when it happened three times. The Vols have now tossed five combined no-hitters and 10 total no-hitters in program history.

Doyle was dominant throughout, striking out eight batters while allowing two walks over six shutout innings to earn the win and improve to 5-1 on the year. The junior lefthander was named the SEC Co-Pitcher of the Week on Monday.

Ensley is Mr. Consistent
After a strong finish to last season, Hunter Ensley has arguably been UT's most consistent player this year after opting to return for one more season in Orange and White. The redshirt senior captain leads the Vols with 43 hits, 11 doubles and 40 RBIs while batting .371 with a 1.078 OPS heading into this week's games. Ensley enters Tuesday's midweek on 12-game hit streak and has also reached base in 30 consecutive games played.

The Huntingdon, Tennessee, native, hit two home runs and led the team with seven RBIs in its series against Teas A&M last weekend after recording six hits, homering twice and driving in five runs in a series sweep at South Carolina the weekend prior. Ensley is batting .400 with a team-high 20 hits and 21 RBIs in SEC play, both of which rank third in the league.

UT Success in Midweeks
The Vols will look to continue their success in midweek games as they come into Tuesday's contest against Alabama State with 7-1 record in the midweek. Tennessee is 71-11 overall in midweek games under head coach Tony Vitello.

From a Missouri fan.

I heard back in 2016 we had our chance when Max Scherzer was asked to put money into the baseball program that Mack Rhoades refused to and didn’t want Tony Vitello. A huge mistake because he has been at Tennessee and turned them into a blueblood. **** Mack Rhoades!!!

It was a blessing for Tony. Missou's administration and fan base wouldn't have gone all in on baseball the way UT did. I don't think he would have had the same level of success.
