*Read Rule #1, you will be banned from the Game Thread if you bash a player, NO EXCEPTIONS

________________________________________________________________________________________________

I debated on even reaching out to Freak about this subject however we have a lot of new folks joining us on the Lady Vols Forums....and Freak gave his blessing to post this in another forum, so here it goes.

I'll keep it short. The Lady Vol Forum on the Volnation board has been known as the civilized bunch (hmmm) . We intend for the spirit of that to remain intact. The Lady Vol Forum is known for the game threads and nuances into the game that many of us do not understand completely as well as many poster’s love for not only Tennessee sports but in College sports in general.

Over the years, this forum has needed very little moderation, it’s moderated much differently than some other forums because of the above.....

I’d like to lay out some general guidelines:
1. We aren't going to bash the kids or coaches. This is not debatable. It is a zero-tolerance policy. This is your warning.

2. A healthy debate about basketball/softball/coaching/officiating decisions is welcomed. We don't mind you questioning a call or a decision but give an educated and reasonable explanation as to why you feel as you do. A healthy debate is a good thing, all opinions are welcomed, flat out bashing someone for their opinion is not being tolerated.

3. Keep it Civil, no explanation needed here.

Also, a great post from @1RBFjr a few weeks ago:

This is my overall philosophy:

1. It’s a game.

2. They’re college students.

3. No one has asked me to coach at this level.

4. I’m in the stands or watching at home hoping for the best, knowing there’s no way as a player I could even come close to making that basket, making that throw, making that hit, etc.

5. I’m watching for fun, and time with family and friends.

Also, please refrain from POLITICAL post or references, even if you’re making a joke. I’m the first one to throw a politician under the bus but I don't do it in the Baseball Forum as it does nothing but piss off someone else that may have different views……….

Yes! The players are still developing, often questioning their own identities and aspirations while also competing at a high level athletically. They are also often still very susceptible to external validation or lack thereof. I really appreciate your leadership here!

Hold on now, that's open ended. 🤔

Am I to understand that this applies to all players and coaches? Even the players and coaches of detested rivals who have stained the blessed Earth with their foul malodorous evil from time immemorial?

Thanks for this, Chuck. 👍

As for bashing players, I would understand if there was a little leeway given towards comments made regarding those who wear national flag blue and white. 😉

Thank you @chuckiepoo.

I've had several posts removed because they had some political reference in them. Each time, I was confused, because I thought I was making a more general, societal, cultural reference. But eventually I saw that the removal was appropriate and my reference did contain a political component, though that was never my intent.

I share that to say this: even when we're being our usual good self, not emotionally bent out of joint, and bearing no ill intent, we can still step afoul of the rules. So a regular reacquaintance with the rules and high standards is good for all of us. The supportive quality of the fanbase is very much a part of the school's appeal to recruits--and the only aspect of recruiting in which we have a say.

To keep my criticisms in check, I try to think of each of the players as one of my nieces, and the coaches as my sons and daughters. Any criticism I might offer would best be couched in the language of encouragement.

As LV fans, we're used to having a "four-year, paternally appropriate, love affair" with the players who wear the Summitt blue & orange. In this era of the portal, it's good to be aware that there will be increased temptation to be more a fan of the uniform instead of the individual wearing it. Because no fan wants to have their "heart broken" by losing a player to another team.

But, just as with tickets, the cost of being a fan has risen.

Some might say discussions could get pretty boring if there are no critical posts. That is just fine with me. I stopped going to the recruiting forum because there is always those who just yell at each other and don't even mention the subject. I wanted to go there for breaking news and intelligent discussion but found I had to go elsewhere for that.

bruised orange's analogy of players are as nieces or daughters, I accept and agree. My personal belief is that many individuals on social media don't "coddle" their own children and their IIMO inappropriate comments on players, are probably similar to those they regularly make or have made to their own children.

Ouchie! 😢

…wow. I guess I would prefer to deny this is possible. I imagine working in the court system brings one close to the front lines…

In a church-sponsored Grief Share support group I attended the other night, out of 9 participants, (at least) 3 grew up with a physically abusive parent. I'm afraid it's more prevalent than we'd like to think.

We know many abusive parents were themselves abused. But I've also wondered how many abusive fathers suffered from PTSD after fighting in one or another war? Action always changes a person. How far back do we have to go to find a generation of fathers who didn't fight overseas against someone? Sobering.

To pull this post back on track... well, it's yet another reason we should extend to each other extra grace.

I doubt anyone on this forum has any objection to those who hold to the opinion that any college women's basketball coaches born in Montella, Italy should go back where they came from, or perhaps be called home by Lucifer. :)

Wonderful ideals! The only exception I wonder about is "constructive criticism' is not a bad thing and in many cases useful. A question such as " "X" seem to be in another world tonight. What's her problem? Would a little bench time not help her get focused?" Is this to harsh?

Like Thanos with the finger snap there goes half the board. Too many people here want to bash Kim’s philosophy/portal recruiting.

Dear God, Olympian level hypocrisy! Good thing for you these rules weren’t around in Harpers day right?

Also, Sara Puckett says hold my Gatorade. She got absolutely demolished here this season.

Questioning and discussing aren’t bashing. We don’t really want the ‘Dear Leader’ culture spreading here too do we? We already have Maria’s board for that.
