If that was MY job review, I would be told that I wasn't getting a raise that year.

I don’t necessarily disagree with you, but let’s remember that the receivers and offensive line contributed to these stats.

Dropped passes and missed blocking assignments have an effect on these stats.

Maybe but if you're demanding big money and want to be the man, those excuses go out the window. That's just how it is.

No doubt...that's why I was interested in seeing if Nico would progress this year, w/ arguably better wr core and a year older. We'll be fine...chances were low, anyway, IMO that we were going to get all the breaks we did LY...was going to be hard to have another 10 win season, w/ UF and others being better. Who knows, maybe this is the thing that really brings the team together, where maybe they play like ND last year...just good solid football in all phases. If our D and rushing game resembles LY, we'll do better than expected.

In reality, he's not going to another SEC team, and likely out west somewhere, if he's Big 10 w/ Oregon, USC, UCLA, he's going to get trounced and have no better talent around him. Which is why, to me, pretty much the only landing spot which makes sense is Colorado, where they need a QB, plays lesser competition and Dion is brash enough to take attention off of Nico and defend him...and their actions of taking a flier on him.

All teams have dropped passes and missed blocking assignments. Taking these in to account for all teams it would not have changed his rankings.

Having Dylan Sampson in the backfield along with the defensive depth we had last year was a lot of the reasoning. Most games, there was little reason to air it out. 2025 was the most conservative Heupel offense in his coaching history.

A few things.

1. I always defended Nico because (a) he has great potential and (b) he was a first-year starter. But there is no denying the facts. He has not shown on the field that he is a top-tier QB. Time might change that, but it also might not.

2. Prime will defend him to a point. But if he isn’t cutting it, Prime likely won’t handle him with kid gloves like Tenn’s staff did last year.

3. Prime likely will not suffer the fool who is Nico’s dad. And that might be the biggest hurdle for any school that wants to get involved. This has “future headache” written all over it.

One thing that has not been mentioned, is that Nico was never a fan favorite. And I admit, that is NOT important. But he never really seemed to connect with the Tenn crowd.
I will say that last year, he threw some really beautiful passes.

Precisely. Production wasn't there to justify his ridiculous demands. He was always and will remain about one thing and thing only: the money. Good riddance!

I think we can buy equal QB play to last year for a lot less and have money left over to spend at WR and CB

He’s mid at best at this stage.

The hope was that we’d see development and I was looking forward to seeing it.

But the kids clearly not a leader and just lacks the ability to learn or has already hit his full potential. Either way the experiment is over and it failed.

Idc about it now that he is gone but let’s not be bitter… countless plays got called back due to holding and ruined rhythm early in games a lot… WRs dropped passes a lot and Nico did have very inconsistent moments but the talent was clearly there.. it’s a shame we will never see it reach its full potential but Nico at 6”6 with good weight and a year of experience as a starter was due for a jump… the numbers are a lazy assessment of Nico he had a ton of room to grow but a lot of his numbers being low was not due to him…

Tyler Brey didn't have the best offensive line or receivers either, but he could sling that ball

He made a few throws where I was like, “That’s a 5 star QB throw.” But overall, the performance was mid-level in the SEC. Dylan Sampson carried the team, offensively.

... MAYBE this ties into WHY several receivers hit the PORTAL. Thoughts or insider info, dots to connect??

... That could also be interpreted as necessary. Without a quarterback who can read a defense and react efficiently, a coach's gameplan HAS to rely on defense and the running game. That's Football 101. If correct, it's a bright neon sign as to what CJH was seeing and game planning for; until whenever he finally saw the "light turn on" for the young man...
