Was Nico's dad and the agent the reason behind all of this?

I think it was 98% his dad and agent. I don’t think Nico knew he was going to be “holding out” until his dad told him to do so on Friday. I think that’s why he was still with his teammates at Halzle’s house a few days prior.

His dad really screwed him over on this one. It doesn’t sound to me like they have another school set up either. They played with fire and got burned. Time to move on.

This is certainly plausible, considering the younger brother Madden’s senior year of high school was messed up due to the dad transferring him back and forth.

I hate it for Nico, but the toothpaste is already outta the tube, as they say.

Probably has a lot to do with his dad and agent, but who knows for sure. I understand the bit about the family tradition hierarchy and always following the father and all that, but you're a grown man. Make your own decisions. He doesn't get a pass.
I agree with you. As a father, I would never act the way Nico's father acted.

At some point you have to grow the hell up and take accountability for your actions. Of course if you don’t grow up you can also take accountability for someone else’s decisions.

The Friday Walk Thru no show, no call, then apparently going silent is on Nico, not his family.

His Dad didn't practice with the team, workout with the team, go to meetings with the team, etc, etc. Were those things also done because his Dad made him? No way. Nico invested himself in the team and Nico left the team.

Nico has his own phone and didn't call, apparently, and just didn't show. If his Dad "told him not to" he could've called and said, "I'm gonna skip the meeting and O&W game. It's what my family and I feel is best for me."

Man up, Nico, at some point in this whole thing and take your part too. Letting him hide behind the family too much is wrong. He left guys like Matthews who were depending on him to be there twisting in the wind. Nico did that, not his Dad.

He definitely could have acted on his own and went against big daddys wishes. But at the end of the day he's always gone along with family at the forefront of the decisions and there was no way he was ever going against his wishes.

What's sad is they've really screwed him up big time with this. Gonna be interesting to see where he lands and what his deal ends up being...he do has to go to a new school and learn a whole new systems and there's no guarantee it works out. Where all he had to do was stay here one more season and ball out and you're getting NFL money next year. Thats all in jeopardy now for sure.

But I guess they still have Madden's NIL money to live off of too.

No question that Nico should have at least informed somebody that he wasn’t going to be at practice. Doubtful we ever know for sure but I firmly believe the father was the main culprit and that he told Nico not to show and was also instructing the agent to shop him. Been reading some stuff and it has been said that fathers call all the shots in the Polynesian culture and the kids don’t question it.

What would one owe Uncle Sam on 6mil? About 2.2 million? If so, that figure is close to the additional monies being sought.....???
He would've faced large taxes for 2 years already. The IRS likes their cut every year, every quarter if you're not careful, and he's not got a huge tax lien, at least that I've heard about.

We've not heard horror stories (yet) about guys who ignored taxes or whatever and NIL has been going on a few years now so I'm assuming the collectives STRONGLY encourage good tax practices.

I still blame it heavily on Nico but I feel like his dad and agents makes the decisions and Nico just follows them. Nico is a grown man and should have stayed with his team if he was a vol. But he is not and pulled a Lane Kiffin and left.

Wow! Marketability will be the question of the future. Trust as well. Regardless this is a humbling experience for Nico. More unanswered questions To either be asked or clarified. What was he doing at Halze’s home on Thursday night? If true? As a NIL recipient I question if the stories that Nico failed to make scheduled appearances are true? If so, then one should question in part the validity of the story presented. You can paint Nico as a villain or as a misguided, betrayed youth. What a mess. One can feel sorry for him or they can take the opposite approach a call him a confused young man with a lot of money. Dad or not Nico made his decisions on his own. Poor ones evidently.

I thought this article was interesting because it said that Nico did not even know about them shopping around. Does anyone know how true this in?
I think this could be spin from the Iamaleava camp. Some big name programs have publicly expressed no interest. His reputation has taken a hit. It's the kind of thing he will have to explain at an NFL combine one day.

Alot of people in our media and elsewhere have pie on their face because they have spent the last 3 years talking about how great Nico is. Those people have a personal need to find a narrative that rehabilitates their prior takes and yet is consistent with what has happened. This is such a narrative. I agree with others that A to Z is not above just making things up and this may be an example of that.

If they went down this road without a guaranteed contract from somebody then the entire clan is dumber than a box of rocks.

Let Nico and his camp cast the blame wherever they want. Doesn't change two things
1. Nico is a grown adult
2. Nico had a great situation here and now it's gone.

Either someone will sign him Weds or whatever day the portal opens for $4 million or Team Nico is going to look like morons.

Personally, I would find it hilarious if whatever team he thinks he has a deal with backed out due to all the bad PR.

Kind of have a feeling that there may be only 1 or 2 schools out there who both have the money and would actually take him now. Really no need for that team to bid against itself now as UT has publicly bowed out. What was a $4 million offer last Weds might now only be $1.5 million.

The Samoan/ Polynesian culture is different than most.
