Long time lurker. I get the frustration, but let's rise above. Nico came from LA to Knoxville, and let's face it, for $. We all celebrated, but maybe like now, it was a family decision, not his. Most all off us fell in love with UT, exploring Gatlinburg, the history of Cade's cove or cat fishing with roommates with a case if ****** beer at bull run. He simply may not have. Money aside, the kid deserves to be at a place that touches his heart like Knoxville did mine. (I'm from MN)

May not be popular, but despite $, a certain place may not bring happiness to everyone.

Nah I'm good. He and his camp pulled this stunt on the last day of spring training. That is absolutely diabolical. 100% intentional, too.

Nico has a lot of talent. He makes some throws that are unreal, then plays a half that makes you say “wTF”. Heupel was the perfect coach for him but family was on a 3year college career timeline. That alone should scare CJH away in the future. Being ready to play NFL football in 3 years is a miracle. Yes it’s done but far more have failed.

Nico beat Bama & helped get the Vols to the CFP. I’ll be grateful & wish him well. He’s just one of many I’ve seen who’s parents screw things up for them.

Dont have a problem with him wanting more money. I have a problem how he went about it. Miss me with this "kid" ****, he's a big boy.

Correct. If he wanted to play the “I’m gonna hit the portal” game in a few weeks to get a better deal, then fine, it’s almost expected at this point in college football. But, to try to hold the program hostage on the eve of the orange and white game? Nah. You get what you deserve.

I like the “despite money” part. Really made me laugh my butt off. Money is the only thing that touched Nic’s heart.
You may have 30,000 more posts but you truly believe he came to TN because he was enamored with Pigeon Forge? We loved it when the money bought him, thought we hit the pinnacle. I just think if we play the game we have to know the consequences. The whole new NIL/transfer era sucks, but this is a result.

I believe he came here for the money but also wanted to be developed. Not sure if it was his intellect or his father’s that made him decide that he should look like a pro player as a redshirt freshman. This decision even if made for money was penny wise and pound foolish. He would’ve been much further along this year at Tennessee than any other likely landing spot. Also most teams have already spent a lot of their NIL budget. His agent reads the field about as well as his client does.

Elite athletes don't come to a school for the area, they come to get prepared for the next level. Nico's head was about what UT would pay and what UT could provide him with so he could become an NFL QB.

If you're that talented college isn't anything but the way you probably looked at high school: this is a step I need to complete to get to college which is a step I need to complete to get to my career.

Oh sure, enjoy high school, enjoy college, but the goal is the career. For Nico, enjoy Knoxville and UT but do what you need to do to get to the NFL.

He's made a misstep. He's lost the prime directive. He's stepped off the strait path.....however you want to put it. Nico isn't "unhappy in Knoxville" but he seems to be unhappy about his compensation.

Like a lot of people, he let the short money have too much weight in his life and he may even lose the chance to ever see the NFL because of that error.

I don't wish him evil but it's not about his heart, it's about what he emphasized in his life.

Whatever his reasons for coming you have some rules and some unwritten rules, also expectations of the qb position. Wanting more money I’m fine with, wanting to go back home also fine, trying to extort money out of the program right before the orange and white game is predatory and scummy.

Now people would’ve been upset regardless for his reasons for leaving but there wouldn’t be this ground swell of support from not only our fans but fans of other teams. Everyone is sick of the crap and recognizes this behavior is just the latest escalation of the scumminess that money brings out in some people.

I’m just saying this wasn’t some innocent kid that wanted to go back home. This is a kid being shopped around to the highest bidder in the time where the family and agent believed they had maximum leverage. The program, his teammates and nothing else was considered.

I do agree with you. Possibly just hanging on to the past. Maybe we shouldn't yell 'BRu' or celebrate a Chaz Lanier. Us fans just feel like we love it when it's in our favor and hate the individual when it's not. I'm probably old school, and want the guys/girls that bleed orange. Maybe that time has passed

I don't get the obsession and hate.
Nico is gone. He isn't a factor at UT any more. Move on, folks.

There’s still a few of them but yeah mostly it’s passed in college football. Hell it’s passed in a lot of things. People don’t want to be a part of something greater than themselves anymore; they want what they can get from any situation. World has become too transactional.

Well unfortunately that time has past. NIL has already changed the landscape of college football and will only continue to do so, and there's no coming back from it. Nico is a kid who was given a lot of money to come here, had a great freshman debut, played average as his one year as a starter although leading us to the playoff if leading is the correct word not sure it is but, got beat by a better team, and let the money and power and in particular his greedy dad/family get to his head. While Nico definitely made a lapse in judgement by holding out like this, he doesn't get all the blame for it. His company influenced this decision just as much as anyone else. He also cannot be let off without any of the blame. All in all he doesn't deserve all the hate he's getting- I don't care if you're working for the beloved small town company that's been around for 100 years - 99/100 of us are gonna take the opportunity to get more money if it comes. Like @S.C. OrangeMan said, Nico Iamaleava is no longer a factor at the University of Tennessee and there is no point in lingering on it. There's not gonna be a whole lot more of these tried and true to their school guys anymore. The kids want the money. A lot of the posters on here don't get how much that money means to a kid who might not have anything outside of football and a family who's struggling. That's all I've got. Goodnight folks GBO.
