That system would’ve been interesting to see what Dobbs or Casey Clausen would do in this system. Bray also would’ve been very good in Heupel’s system.Hooker, and there is no second place. His stats indicate that if he'd had the same amount of time as Manning at UT, he'd have challenged every record Manning set.
Comparing apples to oranges anyway. The game changed for QB's. Manning, Martin, Ainge, Clausen, Milton all were still prototypical NFL style QB's. Dobbs & Hooker have been the only true dual threat QB's on a UT roster. Well and Shuler but that term wasn't a thing then.Hooker is the best I've seen here and I've been around a long time.
His TD to INT ratio will not likely ever be matched. He threw a better/tighter ball than Manning, was way more athletic, and made better decisions with passes, thus fewer ints/fewer incomplete passes. He never had close to the offensive talent Manning/Clausen etc played with either, especially at OL and really at WR and RB.
We used to field teams full of Jaylen Hyatt types and our RB room was stacked with NFL all-pros.
That's not trying to down Manning. Hooker was just that incredible. You can also add in the 1000 yards rushing he had and 10 rushing touchdowns. Hooker had 68 touchdowns total in less than 2 seasons.
We've seen now with Milton and Nico that Hooker was just that great and not a system QB.
We used to recruit sprinters to the track team that could catch a football, and fund their scholly through the football program. That concept died out, and the track team has suffered because of it as well. In the 70's and 80's, and maybe into the 90's, half the receiving corp was probably sprinting for the track coach. UT used to be a top destination for men's track.Hooker is the best I've seen here and I've been around a long time.
