The Nico experiment is over but he will forever the poster child for major NCAA/NIL changes. Again it was his $2 million payment as a high school senior that created a giant lawsuit that eventually the university of Tennessee won. Fast-forward 2 1/2 years later, and this stand by Josh Heupel in the Tennessee administration is putting the brakes and a major spotlight on the issue.
Nick Saban has already come out and praised Josh Heupel for what he’s done in the stand that he made. As I scroll through multiple other schools message boards, there is a ton of respect for Josh Heupel in the Tennessee program for doing what they did. I think that even the fans are tired of the NIL era. With such a nationwide and front page spotlight on this Nico situation, and with high profile people like Nick Saban their statements, I believe we will see action very soon. That will curb the constant NIL negotiations. It’s Nico was as good as he thought he was, there would be teams lined up to sign him, and yet he overplayed his hand in one of the most impressive failures in the modern football era.
I hope we see real change coming soon.
