Assuming we poach a starter from another school, how can our fan base rally behind him? I understand the circumstances would be different but the sentiment would be the same. We would be taking someone willing to leave their current team high and dry for a better situation for himself. I understand the whole “this is the current landscape” but it doesn’t excuse us looking like the biggest hypocrites in the world. The media had our backs on telling Nico to kick rocks. Watch how quickly that turns when we take another “Nico”. I think that are teed up and ready to swing and I can’t rightfully disagree.

Not hypocritical at all.

Different circumstances, man. Nico tried to hold us hostage and we told him to kick rocks. Not like this was our plan, but we've got to better the situation we're in.

It's like saying you won't find a new gf bc your last one broke up with you. Time to move on....

No different than a QB in the NFL leaving and going to another team.
If someone comes here gets paid and puts there sweat on the field. Who cares.

Right or wrong, if we pull any decent starting QB away from a team right now just after Spring, the media will turn on us and make it a PR nightmare.

I get that but my argument is this…if your girlfriend left you for another dude that knew she was in a relationship with you, would you go try to find a new girlfriend that was in a relationship or would you seek to find a single girl. I have no problem with us going and getting a qb that left his school without any involvement from us. Us poaching someone else’s starter is a different thing though

No-showing at work and then holding out for a 60 % pay increase after you have been treated like a king by your employer is different than taking a better job for more pay and better benefits with a different employer. The former, we never do in the real world. The latter, we do all the time. Graciously, "thank you for all you've done for me but I have to walk through that open door." Right?

I'll take the counterpoint. I don't know if they will turn on us unless we pay him $4M. It's moot though I think because I highly doubt we can pull a potential starter from any P5 program at this point, and even if we do I think the NIL/portal fiasco is being exposed for the disaster that it is. I do think the Nico kerfuffel is an opportunity for the NCAA/lawmakers to actually do something about it. I highly doubt they will, but the door is opened.

Get both sides but CFB was before NIL and worse now will remain a dog eat dog world. There is very little integrity when it comes to winning and how its done. It is what it is, good/bad.

If that girl breaks up with her bf, she's fair game. Same thing for players entering portal.

But would you go after that girl and encourage her to break up with her current boyfriend? Maybe you would, and maybe there’s nothing wrong with that. You would however be a hypocrite for having anything negative to say about your previous girlfriend or the dude that took her. That would also apply to any future girlfriend that someone came and took from you. Again, my point is Tennessee garnered good faith in the recent situation, could cause a positive ripple in the current player/school power dynamic, and could also piss it all away by poaching another teams STARTER.

Nico was coming into a very good situation this year. Only a very small handful of rosters exceed ours’ and none of them wanted him. I’d dare say a player who can improve not only his finances but the ability to be surrounded by a better cast.

Faizon Brandon is our next Nico.

No one we get in the Spring is going to be as highly touted as Nico.

If we get someone like Sawyer Robertson, it's a win for him with a bigger conference, bigger stage, bigger NIL, etc and a win for UT covering the hole we have now.

No one expects us NOT to get an SEC ready player and that means someone who is already playing somewhere. Will we contact guys not in the portal? I'd certainly hope so. Is that tampering? I am pretty sure it is.

If you're looking to follow a squeaky clean sport, check your local T-Ball league.

I just hate we are now the pros with free agency!

I understand players chasing the dollar but hate it at the same time!

Eat or be eaten.

Doesn’t matter if the situation is identical or vastly different. All that matters is cutting out cancers and brining in high end teachable talent.

We got games to win.

Quite honestly a pretty lame naive thread. Any school in the country would be looking for another quarterback if they only had too. Nothing hypocritical about it. Good grief is this really a thread. GBO

And yet you commented on said thread lol. No crap we’re gonna be looking for a qb. That’s not the point. The point is will we take a “bag chaser”, a “nico” and perpetuate the current status of college football or will we try to find someone for example that’s good but didn’t win the starting role during spring camp for his current team and is looking for an opportunity.

We need a third QB and there is only one way to get one at this late date. And the situation was not of our making. These guys in the portal aren’t blackmailing us for money like Nico’s crew did. I may not like how all this works but my opinion doesn’t matter. Play the game or get left behind.

If folks don’t understand the game now, that’s not our fault and I could care less what some media dweeb says. As one poster said earlier, since when did we ever care about what the media thinks?

If you are critical of Nico and how he left. Wouldn't you feel the same about someone the Vols "poached" QB they bought?. Both QB's leaving for money and "themselves" both would be putting money ahead of character integrity realtionships and "promises"/ social contracts
