“Woody’s (trainer Jeff Wood) is going to go over there, and I think the good – I mean, he took the foul ball square in the mouth area, but Woody said he was able to talk a little bit,” Tennessee head coach Tony Vitello said postgame. “There’s some stuff with teeth but I don’t, you know, I don’t know if I’m supposed to speculate or not in that situation, but obviously not a good night for us, but he had the worst night out of everybody. It’s the same deal I dealt with (in 2023). I was blessed to get it in the jaw. He got it square in the mouth.

“I know all the guys have already been talking about it. We’ll look after him, and hopefully [he] comes out… you know, Wiggy’s Wiggy, so I think he’ll come back out and be the same guy that he was.”

🙏
A wiggy can’t be good but sounds like he’s in good hands.

They said on the broadcast today that he had to have reconstructive surgery last night and may have to have a couple more.

Multiple teeth knocked out too.

Hope he recovers quickly

I don’t know what it’s going to take to put a protective netting over the dugout area. Too many hits and near misses these last few years. A few inches one way or another and we have a true tragedy on our hands. There is absolutely no way to react from that distance at high speeds.
The dugout railing needs to at least be taller.

Ball came 100 mph off the bat 🥺

I was about 10' away when it hit him. We knew it had to be every bit of 100mph or more.

I was sick the rest of the game worried that it got his eye. Not that a broken jaw and busted teeth is much better...

I haven't seen the team, or any team for that matter, react like the way they did. They were extremely shook up and rightfully so. I couldn't bring myself to worry much about the outcomes of the games the rest of the series, and I'm honestly impressed how they kept going through the weekend.

Also, if you or you know anyone that talks to Andrew Behnke's parents...he went back into the clubhouse with the trainers and Wiggins for a little bit right after it happened. He came back out and immediately started looking into the family seats and asking if Wiggins' parents were there. Really impressed me. In that moment, the team whole team was still in shock and could barely move- but he had the heart to worry about Tanner's family. That's a good man.

Thanks for sharing that info. Just a horrible thing to happen to Tanner Wiggins. It had to shake up everyone in that dugout. Baseball was secondary all weekend after that happened. Hope he recovers quickly.

Same here! Just seeing the looks on their faces and their body language had me choked up. A lot of guys leaning on each other and praying. We have some good dudes in that dugout.

I heard that sound when it made contact. It was gruesome sounding and terrifying. Guys were praying and heads down for what seemed like an eternity. We’ve got to get them protected. It’s time.

Tanner's girlfriend was there and able to be with him. I will let the Behnke's know 🧡
