Joey is the anti Nico in many ways

1. One was a five-star prospect with a sense of entitlement and the other had to start at juco

2. One is undoubtedly more gifted and relies on those gifts so missing practice isn't a big deal. One had to scrape and claw for everything

3. One plays overly cautious and the other slings the tater and lets his guy makes plays

4. One is a quiet presence in the locker room and the other is a leader of men

5. One still has a massive chip on his shoulder, and I expect Joey to ball out this year!!!

I'm going to throw this stat out there too

Games throwing 200+
Nico 5/13
Joey 25/26-The only game he didn't throw for 200 was his very first

In other words, Joey has a five star heart? Just sayin.

I’m just glad this whole thing is closed out. No idea if we will be a net positive on the field with our qb room but we have good competition. Now that this is settled we need to close portal out addressing needs. Get the roster set, and let’s go!
I think getting rid of his toxic family will be a good thing. See his brother just entered portal at Arky where he just transferred to. I'm sure daddy told him to come back to Cally where he can control him better.

I’ve been a Vol fan so long that I can make this observation, I enjoy seasons a lot more when the expectations are modest. Same goes for individual players. The ones that get elevated to GOAT status before taking a snap never quite satisfy, which is unfair. Enjoy the season with less drama - hopefully.

I'm going to give the kid my full support. We are in a crap position. He is in a crap position. We both solved each other's problem.......maybe. He could be a rallying point. Who knows. Nico may have been rat poison. I've said all season that something was amiss between Nico and the entire receiver corps. Here's a little secret.......it can't be ALL of the receivers. They were just not on the same page. Maybe Nico was the problem. Brazzle, Bru, and all the others could never truly get on the same page with Nico. We've seen their talent. They've displayed it with multiple teams. So why did we struggle against any team that wasn't a cupcake? I'm chalking it up to Nico and moving on.

Our coaches stance against Nico has received praise from many in the sports world, and I believe our fan base has quietly grown over the past 2 weeks. We, including the fanbase, took a ****** story and have turned the corner and are marching forward like an army about to go into battle. I for one have a lot more interest/passion looking at our upcoming season due to this opportunity and believe this adversity could just be what the team needs to lock arms and play to their potential. Go Vols!!

I want some fire out of our quarterback, he doesn’t have to jump up and down all the time but I just don’t like a totally laid back demeanor at quarterback all the time. You can have composure and still have some fire too you. I want a quarterback who has a sense of urgency and want to out there, who is involved with his teammates and under control all at the same time. GBO

I watched his Clemson film on YouTube. He did not look very sharp but he definitely has experience running away from defenders and the body weight to take the power 5 punishment. These are important factors. and the problem with throwing freshman into the SEC fire. Glad to see the 3rd body in the QB room. We could use another.

Could he possibly be Hendon Hooker II. Lightning in a bottle. Let's wait and see.
I've been thinking along the same lines. On paper, it's underwhelming but better than things were a few days ago.

But imagine this was 3 years ago, our starting QB drops out, transfers, gets injured, whatever. And we bring in portal transfer Hendon Hooker from Virginia Tech. I don't recall him being highly touted or having amazing numbers. Couldn't even win the starting job. But he ran the system well and hit the deep ball when it was there. Ended up in the Heisman conversation, might have won if that night in Columbia didn't happen.

Coach has shown if you can run his system intelligently and efficiently, and hit the open receivers, he can make you a star.

I’m with you. And I expect that we will get more production out of the QB position this upcoming season than we got last season.
