I mean who can tell these days but I feel this is FOS. Would be very dumb to transfer now. He has more of a chance to be QB1 than he did a couple of weeks ago. Make no mistake they would like Aguilar to win QB1 but that’s by no means a guarantee. Merk could win the start and never look back.

If true, the Vols have gone from one of the hottest programs and a 10-2 season and playoff birth to no one wants to play quarterback here anymore in just weeks. Tell me how this happens in any scenario.

Could there be something going on with the staff behind the scenes? Is the OC trash and folks don't want to play for him? Is the lack of WRs and quality OL the issue? I could see any number of these being reasons.....

Where would he go where he’d be guaranteed to start? This is his best chance to play next year at a P4, unless he wants to move down and try to ball out there and make a lot less money. Can’t imagine he’d jump. He’s a snap away from being QB1 here.

Merk might feel like he is not getting the coaching he needs, since he wasn't able to win the starting job. Afraid we are starting to see what happens when you don't upgrade underperforming coaches after the season ends.

Seriously this would be beyond stupid. He's a RS Freshman and if he was fine sitting behind Nico why is it an issue now? Why is he suddenly afraid of competition? Joey just arrived on campus and Huep hasn't named him starter yet. The only thing I could think is he's trying to get a raise.

Fact is if he leaves now so be it. We got Joey and GMAC and we can go find depth in the portal

If this is true, its not that Merk doesn't want to play here, it would be he has been recruited over and sees no chance of playing here, but I think this is not true about him transferring, with only like what 2 days left in the portal?
