Agree with the top 5 all time greats at UT. The 69 season was marked by the best trio of lbs ever at UT and in my opinion, the best ever at any university with Reynolds, Kiner and Walker. Part of the great legends that accompany talk of Kiner and Walker is the fact that nothing ever happened in the middle due to the presence of Reynolds. To fill out the top five, add Jerrod Mayo at #1 and Al Wilson at #5.

Mayo at number 1 seems a bit preposterous to me, even though he was great. Also wonder where you’d rank guys like DeLong and Mike Stratton

Kiner was a legend though, RIP

Not familiar enough with MS in college but a great All-Pro Ib with Buffalo and the “Hit heard ‘round the world”. Saw DeLong play twice and again a great lb but I stick with my rankings. I would have Stratton above DeLong and both in the top 10 easily. Also you cannot separate Hacksaw and Kiner or both fall out of the top five. JMO

Wasn’t it Kiner who made the “Archie who?” statement? That one didn’t work out so well but he was a hell of a linebacker back in the days where wearing the orange and white ment something to the players.

Rest in peace #57. He was a great one. A couple more stud LB’s from days of old—Frank Emanuel and Andy Spiva. Also one whose life was cut short in a traffic accident near Benton TN—Tom Fisher.
I was just about to mention those including Tom as well as Mike Lucci and Paul Naumoff.. Vivid memories of watching all of them all.

"Hee-haw," says Kiner, "them's not horses, them's mules." 39-0 Ole Miss...

38-0. The Jackson Massacre. One touchdown better than 31-0 TN a year earlier.

Saw both games. The one in Neyland much more enjoyable. About all I remember from Jackson was that the Ole Miss fans were rabid because of those remarks and the previous year beatdown. That and we had them stopped on their first drive, 4th down from inside two, Archie got hit fumbled and they recovered for TD. Went downhill from there.
