Another one of the great ones gone. Rest easy Mr. Kiner.

The trio of Kiner, Jack Reynolds, and Jackie Walker was outstanding. Definitely one of the best in our history........

I am a huge supporter of Marvin West. However, I believe there is one other LB who was as good as Steve. I believe Andy Spiva was the best LB ever to play at Tennessee. He holds the Tennessee and SEC records for most tackles at 547. He was a tackling machine I may be a little biased because I helped recruit him when he was in high school It was unfortunate that he was killed in a car accident during his rookie season with the Falcons and never had the opportunity to really show his skills in the NFL.

RIP No/ 57. Marvin West, once again, has performed magic at the keyboard, capturing and summarizing the life of the best linebacker to wear the orange.

I am biased, I started reading West's daily reports on UT football in the mid-60s and was in Neyland Stadium for every game of Kiner's sophomore season. I believe that the next time I saw Steve play was in Legion Field in 1969, when a West High classmate and I hitchhiked from campus to Bham for what proved to be one of the biggest thrills in 60-plus years as a Vol fan.

I can remember where I was and what I was doing the day of that Ole Miss game. Bad game memory but good one with my late dad.

Me too...sitting at a Tennessee Tech game with my transisitor radio, listening to the Vols' getting mangled by "Archie Who" & his Rebels. Despite that, Kiner was a beast on the field & all VOL.
