I was watching some youtube videos of our current QB situation. I started wondering about what the QB room really looks like going into the fall and kinda started thinking about how we don't really have a strong option coming into the season. With Aguilar only having fall practice and what he can do this summer to prepare, he's going to have a limited playbook. With Merk having only 1 year under his belt and no starts, he has a limited playbook. Realistically, i don't think CJH has a solid grasp on what he is doing next season. He's likely going to just let some things reveal themselves in fall practice. No huge leap in logic there. But I see him starting Aguilar and bringing Merk in for significant play time. I could see this turning into some Steve Spurrier 2 QB system for the season with guys constantly rotating. I hate the concept but when you're trying to make chicken salad out of chicken $hit, you do what you've gotta do.

I referenced this a few weeks ago using Leak and Tebow as the example (and embarrassingly stated Spurs was the coach when it was Meyer). To me that is the best example of the 2 qb working. Leak making the passing plays, Tebow getting yards with his legs. Granted, one of those guys was a Heisman winner so it took some serious talent to make it work. I could see us implementing a Wildcat option and just hike it directly to one of our tailbacks which would kind of accomplish the same thing without tipping our hat to the defense we are running.

Doubtful. Heupel likes tempo.

He likes to control defensive subs by leaving guys on the field so the D can't sub a 3rd down package or whatever.

It's anti-Heupel to sub like that.

Has that ever been successful? I recall Fulmer doing that briefly with Ainge and Schaffer but I think it was just early in the season to see who would take the reigns and when Spurrier did it I don't recall that ending well. Hopefully one of the QBs takes the job and runs with it.

Came to say the exact same thing............additionally when your rotating like that its hard to get in a rhythm with your WR's, OL, and your handoff is different with the RB's. Plus its hard to get in your own flow of the game......haven't seen it work that I can remember with any team.

I think we've been playing with a limited playbook for two seasons now.

He's in his 2nd year in the system, he wouldn't have a limited playbook lol

I was kind of waiting on the most important part of the decision of 2 qbs: each of them have to bring something to the table. You didnt include anything that anyone brought to the table

I don't see a world in which we have a two QB system. You might, if there isn't clearly a better QB, have a coach who tries to figure that out in game time. But no, generally we won't have a two qb scenario. JMO

As others have stated, only go to 2 QB system because you don't have 1 QB that can be a run threat as well as a passing threat.
Going to a 2 QB system, you tell the opposing defense "Hey, this is a run play so stuff the line" or "Hey, this is a pass play so drop back in coverage".

Also, with the tempo Heupel runs at it would be nearly impossible to sub a QB in and out...plus it defeats the purpose of running fast on Offense to confuse the Defense.

So my vote is NO thanks.
