Saw where we have 77 on scholarship, 8 short of the limit. How many did we have in previous years? Will we add more or is this as deep as we’ll be this year because of the scholarship reductions? How many do we still have to leave unfilled and when are we officially no longer under any restrictions?

Just shooting off the cuff and not looking it up...I believe we have to stay below 79 this year (6 less than the allowed 85) and this is the last year of the restriction.

I get back to my computer tomorrow where it's easier to search said information, I'll confirm.

82 or 83 is the limit, if I remember correctly.

83 is the max scholarships for UT in 2025 due to the Pruitt probation. NCAA Probation wording said UT had to take at least 2 scholarship reduction each year of probation. That prevented UT from taking all the remaining total scholarship reductions in 1 or 2 years.

IIRC, UT has to take 3 scholarship reductions (82 total scholarships) in only one of its remaining probation years to reach the total amount of required scholarship reductions over the entire probation.

One other caveat is IF/WHEN the new NCAA rules pass, the total scholarship limit will be 105 for each P4 team. So UT would be able to have 103 each year of probation after that except for one year of 102.

No. I believe it is 2028 but not sure. Someone else can confirm or correct.

We started cutting out scholarships in 2021 before the final judgement was even announced so we should have already made a serious dent on the number before the "clock" even started.

We started cutting out scholarships in 2021 before the final judgement was even announced so we should have already made a serious dent on the number before the "clock" even started.

The NCAA did give UT credit for several already reduced scholarships during CJH first couple years, but they would not give complete credit far all of them. UT still had to use a few more during the probation period with at least 2 each year remaining.

Agree...but unfortunately the NCAA doesn't see it that way. Anything we did prior to the official date was just to help bolster our image and potentially get a lighter sentence from the NCAA...which I truly believe happened.

Kind of think about it like if you have to serve community service, but you go out a month ahead of that and help out at the local orphanage. You don't time off your community service for helping, but the judge will surely look in your favor when it does come to setting that amount.

Per the 2023 agreement, the NCAA docked the Vols 28 scholarships, but gave the Vols credit for 16 scholarships the Vols didn’t award in the 2021-2022 & 2022-2023 school years.

Besides scholarship reductions, Heup/Staff have been dealing with reductions in official visits, player evaluations and communications (see Penalties section in link).

The Vols can award 82 or 83 scholarships next school year, and I think have currently awarded 78, counting Jakobe Thomas.

No advertising by the University during the 23-24 off-season? What the heck? Are they talking about those goofy "cliche ways of saying our school is the best" things they usually show at halftime on the TV broadcasts?
