Saw where we have 77 on scholarship, 8 short of the limit. How many did we have in previous years? Will we add more or is this as deep as we’ll be this year because of the scholarship reductions? How many do we still have to leave unfilled and when are we officially no longer under any restrictions?

Just shooting off the cuff and not looking it up...I believe we have to stay below 79 this year (6 less than the allowed 85) and this is the last year of the restriction.

I get back to my computer tomorrow where it's easier to search said information, I'll confirm.

83 is the max scholarships for UT in 2025 due to the Pruitt probation. NCAA Probation wording said UT had to take at least 2 scholarship reduction each year of probation. That prevented UT from taking all the remaining total scholarship reductions in 1 or 2 years.

IIRC, UT has to take 3 scholarship reductions (82 total scholarships) in only one of its remaining probation years to reach the total amount of required scholarship reductions over the entire probation.

One other caveat is IF/WHEN the new NCAA rules pass, the total scholarship limit will be 105 for each P4 team. So UT would be able to have 103 each year of probation after that except for one year of 102.

The NCAA did give UT credit for several already reduced scholarships during CJH first couple years, but they would not give complete credit far all of them. UT still had to use a few more during the probation period with at least 2 each year remaining.

Kind of think about it like if you have to serve community service, but you go out a month ahead of that and help out at the local orphanage. You don't time off your community service for helping, but the judge will surely look in your favor when it does come to setting that amount.

the final judgement was that UT had to reduce the number by 12 over the next five years, through the 2027 season. They could not take a one year hit and absorb all 12. Had to reduce by at least 2 every year of the 5 years which means taking an additional one at least two years.

I haven't researched it extensively, and class actions are not my thing, but I don't see how the House settlement is ever going to bind future players and if it doesn't, what good is it really (other than absolving the NCAA for past antitrust violations)? It would seem to me that it will effectively settle claims concerning past conduct but any hope that it will effectively set any enforceable parameters for the sport going forward are misplaced.

And, beginning in the 2021 season, Tennessee disassociated from an unnamed booster. The university stopped accepting money from or providing athletics privileges not available to the general public.

As part of the five-year NCAAA probation, Tennessee must:

• Pay fine, including $8 million, 50% of gross revenue paid to SEC for Tennessee's participation in the 2020 TaxSlayer Gator Bowl under Pruitt, $5,000 plus 3% of football budget
• Vacate all wins and individual records in any game in which 16 individual sanctioned players participated. Those games will announced later.
• Cut 28 scholarships from its roster over five years. Tennessee had already self-imposed 16 scholarships over the past two seasons.
• Cease communication with recruits for 28 weeks spread over five years.
• End unofficial visits by recruits for 40 weeks over five years.
• Cut 36 official visits by recruits over five years.
• Cut 120 evaluation days over five years.

**I believe July 2028 is when probation ends.
