SIAP. Before this weekend, I see that most had us as a #2 seed who would not be hosting in the regionals leading (hopefully) to the CWS.

How will the wins so far, including against #1 Texas, play in that regard since I think the seeds are selected on Monday?

If we make it past Vandy to the SEC final, do we get a bump to #1? If we win, do we get upper half of #1 and host?

How will this weekend so far and the next two games impact our regionals seeding?

unless we have any committee members on VolNation, this will all be speculation. We don't know what they will emphasize in the seeding. Our RPI is now squarely in position to justify getting a host spot. But, it's conceivable that the committee will emphasize 5 straight series losses and rationalize away a win over Texas by saying Texas wasn't even using one of their weekend starters. It's even possible that a win tomorrow over Vandy isn't enough. I think that would be crazy, but it's possible. Like it or not, I believe there is pressure to limit the number of SEC teams getting host spots. I don't think they want 8 SEC teams getting to host. With 6 SEC teams already locks to host, I just don't think they will let Tennessee and Ole Miss both host (or Bama or Florida). So we need to kind of force our way in IMO.

Having said that, I think we will get a host spot, but I won't feel confident in that unless we beat Vandy. I do not believe we can do anything to get a top 8 seed, and I'm honestly fine with that. There has to be a consequence to losing 5 straight series.

as wtmvol just said, our RPi should justify a host spot. Beat Vandy and i think hosting is a done deal. Lose to Vandy and maybe those chances take a hit. Either way it's looking way more promising than it did last Sunday.

I think were hosting a regional win or lose and winning just makes it a sure thing. Vols win this tourney were at least in the top 10 even if we beat Vandy and win the tourney can't see us getting in that top 8.

I'm not sure why Southern Miss would get to host over us (or Ole Miss). They have 5 Q4 losses with a very comparable record. We're better in every metric I'm looking at. The only justification is that they want to give some hosting spots to non-power conferences.

I'm also concerned they're going to want at least 1 Big12 team to host, so look out for TCU, Arizona, West Virginia, and Kansas.

Here's who I think we need to root for today:

Arkansas over Ole Miss
West Virginia/Arizona - I'm not sure - this is a toss-up
TCU/Kansas - not sure on this one either, but probably want Kansas to win

tomorrow:
Clemson over Georgia Tech
Iowa over UCLA
Someone over Southern Miss

If history is a guide, then I predict we get the "conference toury performances are not really considered for seeding purposes" like they do in the other sports. If we lose then we will get the "they really didn't perform well enough to change their seeding" line. We should host. We are the defending champs. That should give us a bit of a boost. And we are finishing strong.

No A&M over LSU? Clemson can suck it. I'm thinking a L for any of the 7-9 RPI teams is good for us.

Gotta beat Vandy. If we don't, Vol fans better cup up because it's coming.

Yeah I totally get battered Vol syndrome but in baseball, if we win the SEC champs and are the returning Omaha champs, its gotta kinda count for something I would think as far as getting benefit of any doubts.

Totally uninspired performance today. To lose that way to Candy is disturbing to say the least. Not a feared rival in football but definitely one in baseball and to not show up today is hard to swallow.
