SEC commissioner Greg Sankey announced on Thursday that the league is increasing its fines for field and court storming in 2025-26. Previously the league used an escalating model where the first field storming resulted in a $100,000 fine. A second offense equaled a fine of $250,000 and a third offense triggered a fine of $500,000.

Moving forward, however, all field and court stormings will create a fine of $500,000 for the offending program.

These desiccated old men, who have lost all joy in life, sit behind their desks and try to make sure young men are as miserable as they are.

The animal spirits need to be let loose from time to time or what is a life for?

If you don't let them out in wholesome ways, like storming a field after a much desired victory, then they will come out in less wholesome ways in some other venue.

And I maintain it is far more dangerous to try to hold back a crowd than to just let them through. The crowd doesn't pay the fine so there is zero incentive there for them to not rush the field anyway. All this does is create incentives to put people in their path and create more injuries than there would otherwise be.

We aren't the caliber of program that needs to be storming the field anyway.
The reason most people storm the field/court is because the lowly underdog beats the big boy. I really doubt a $500,000 fine will matter to fans unless the AD says it will directly increase ticket pricing-----that should stop the practice

If we were to beat Georgia on a game winning situation as time expires then nobody should have a problem with a field storming. What they should do in general, is put a timer on the field that would give whoever wanted to exit time to leave and then let whoever wants to storm the field have at it.

“We love the uniquely rabid passion of SEC fans — when it’s profitable and conforms to our control — but we also hate it and want it to stop.”

Maybe the SEC should defer punishment of the field rushers to the school. After all, they set the precedent when they deferred punishment for Burton to Nick Saban after he went all Ike Turner...
