Before there even was a phrase: Vol-For-Life!

Not much going on right now….

Thought I’d put out some highlights of probably the BEST natural-talented athlete that ever wore the Orange & White.

(The Bernie & Ernie show was a sight to behold!) - many other highlights on YouTube.
Look him up on Wikipedia, too!

Coach Ray Mears & John Ward said that he was the best athlete that they’ve ever seen!

For the OG’s & the Young-en’s
He was a BEAST! — Enjoy!….

Maybe not for MBB or WBB. But there's baseball. Softball. T&F

My wife met him a couple of weeks ago, she said he was so nice. She had no idea who he was except he was huge and figured he was an ex athlete (they have a lot of athletes come through there). Somehow they started talking college and UT and he got so excited when she told him we both graduated from there. He said on his next appointment he was going to bring her a “Tennessee” present. Can’t wait to find out what it is.

I grew up listening to John Ward call his games and it was tremendous, then watching the replays of the games on public tv was just icing on the cake. “B” could drop 50 on you if weren’t careful, and his scowl was legendary. For a guy 6’-7” to average 13 rebounds a game was unheard of, and his quickness was the key. I still don’t think I’ve seen a quicker leaper anywhere. 🍊🏀🍊😎

Growing up in the 70s and playing bb myself it was so easy to cheer for the Vols and John Ward. The Ernie and Bernie show was my first love for UT sports.

See if she can find out where to send my Ernie and Bernie Sports Illustrated to have him sign. 😉

Been trying to figure out how to get both to sign that thing for years.

Thanks for sharing this. Folks that have not actually seen him play can’t really understand how great he was. This video wasn’t just clips of some of his great plays because he played this way every game. A sight to behold. As John Ward said best, “King of the Volunteers” was truly an athletic marvel.

Imagine scoring 33 points a game in the nba and finishing 7th in mvp voting. Dude was unlucky to have his peak right when Bird, Magic, young MJ, and others were dominating the early/mid 80s. If he had been a decade later and on some better teams, he'd get the respect he deserves.

King could not have a more apt last name.
