Great year for our team and I hate to see it end. I’m not sure how this thread will go, but I would like to know if any of you have thought about something new that the crowd can do during games. Would love to see some new traditions to go along with the new era of the renovated stadium. There’s been a lot of talk this year on how dull the crowd has been so let’s hear some ideas on how we can change it.

Move folks in SRO down to empty seats after 3rd inning.
Add seats to student section
Clone WolfpackVol to get the crowd going.
Add Murray St to schedule!

I like the idea. Here in Nashville, the Predators quickly developed their own cheers and chants led by the infamous Section 303. Nashville, SC, the soccer team, has something similar.

We need a rowdy section that leads the rest of the stadium in our own unique cheers and chants. Arkansas has the beer hats and calling the Hogs. aTm has Ball 4, ball 8, etc. (I love that one). We should get something of our own.

Those "beer hats " resemble urine samples. :p

I'm gonna treat this like a "there's no bad ideas" type meeting and just fire some stuff out there.

-- Student section: Remove the hand rails. Allow them to bring in camp chairs. $10 beers. Run beer specials like $5 till the first K or something. Who knows. Maybe even fence off or control access to that section (they do have their own bathrooms now).

[ I also have an idea where, to fit the baseball vibe and as a nod to Frank Anderson, you let them bring in and sit on buckets (hell they even make cushioned ones now). Said buckets can carry in 6 (aluminum) beers pregame. Danny can sell them ice for $15 or something if he has to see a profit. I'm just spitballing here...but multiple SEC venues allow coolers, etc, so its doable. Even if they just allow them as seating, they can use them to make noise, paint them up, UT can sell branded ones, etc].

--I do love the idea for a Cellblock 303 type section. Even if an entire section can't do it, I do think there can be some sort of communication between sections to facilitate that. There's roughly 18ish 'normal' (non MVP, non 4Topp) sections. A few "regulars" in each section getting instructions/updates from leaders (via something like GroupMe) can make that work.

-- Everyone seems to do the ball 4/5/6/7 thing. I like the idea of doing something with a third strike (when we're pitching). Everybody punch out, yell "sit down", call out their steps back to the dugout, something like that. I'm open to ideas.

-- I'm hesitant to get in on the dugout's stuff (ROCK SKIPPER, good/not so good, all the count specific things, etc), I know a lot of that is "their" stuff. A lot of us did adopt the two thumbs up on a single which i thought was fun.

-- Shake the nets when you can (but I can see stadium ops stopping that).

-- If any porch people are in here...FIX IT. That was one of the best places to get noise going. This year it was a frigging networking meeting out there.

Awesome stuff right here! How about some Orange towels (like Terrible Towels) and waving them around to certain songs they play over the sound system? Would they allow that in there?

Mr. Reggie has tired to lead cheers from Section 113 for 2 years. He does Let’s Go Vols, Go Big Orange, and the VOLS cheer. During the regular season very few people join in. During last regional game more people got involved. Other than that it was dead all year. Our crowd is a see and be seen crowd. I have zero hope that we will ever achieve crowds like LSU and Ark. let’s face it those are the only two fan bases that make noise at baseball and affect the games.

I think Tony wants this type of crowd at LNS but we have too many forces that do NOT want this. Can’t have flags hanging on walls. People have been told they can’t hold flags up in the stands. We do pass out shakers on occasion so those are OK. Ark used to have cheerleaders or dance team at their games. Didn’t notice any over the weekend. I did notice tons of flags. Looked cool as heck.

It can be done here because we know what Neyland is like. But the baseball crowd just isn’t used to cheering at games. It’s a different mindset. It will take buy-in from the fans who are there to support the Vols.

I don’t think it’s a terrible idea at all to have a hostile crowd for baseball even though there will be significantly less fans than football. I’d love some crazy stuff like when Ricky “Wild Thing” Vaughn walks out on to the field.

I think the thing that will work is baseball specific stuff but the problem is most of our fans don't know baseball. I love when there is a flyball and most of the crowd starts cheering as the outfielder is moving in to catch the ball. Or the PA person plays staying alive when the opposing team fouls a ball off. We have to have a new PA person and music people. They are horrible. No clue about baseball.
But I'm not a fan of cloning football stuff which is what has been tried. It is a different crowd and some of that does not apply. Get a baseball junkie up there to do sound and PA.

I 100% agree on the sound/music. I have so many great ideas for sound bytes and music, and I dang sure would play the walk-up music on time instead of starting when the guy steps into the box. Can I be a write-in candidate?
