CJH on hot seat; $37.5 M buyout?

A random Facebook post popped up so, I decided to google to see if there was fire to the smoke: College Football Playoff Coach With $37.5M Buyout Put On Hot Seat
I know his second year seemed the best so far but, how can it be said he’s on the hot seat after the last several coaches that we have had?



Did not know his buyout is that much: Josh Heupel has top 15 salary among college football head coaches
I’m thinking this is his yearly salary times the years on his contract. Anyone think either is too much or too long?

Dude you cannot seriously think Heupel is on the hot seat. His seat is ice cold. He has earned his contract.

Let’s face it, his results the last two years were top 10. You all will just have to live with that. There’s no reason to think he can do it this year with the personnel he’s got.

If you’re older than 10 you should have already figured out that stress is maximized at all times whether you get good results or bad results.

Not clicking that drivel.

Assuming you meant to say "there's no reason to think he CAN'T do it this year..." Don't you think you're discounting the loss of our starting QB in spring a little too much? Not to mention a thin and unproven wide receiver room? Not to mention a thin and unproven RB room? Not to mention a lot of new starters on the OLine, including a true freshman? Not to mention a thinner DLine this year? Not to mention our shut down corner who knows when he's coming back from injury? You're being awfully fast and loose with your opinion without contemplating all the ifs.

This is true. It's always about the Jimmy's and Joe's and always will be. The recruiting is mid level and for what they're spending on it, makes you scratch your head why. He's done a good job but this will eventually catch up to him.

You do understand we are still under a handicap on number of scoils we can have? I understand it has nothing to do with the quality of recruit but I think he is scrambling to get players that can produce now. With the changes that have come with NIL and "pay" his recruiting has had to adjust toward kids who need to be developed. (won't be a very good transfer player to be lost) High ranked players will leave in a minute if things don't suit. (i.e. that QB whoever he was) That leaves him scrambling to maintain the type guys to play the type game he wants.

Man the offseason really gets a lot of bites on stupid articles.

Heupel's seat is ice cold. We could go 7-5 this year and it will only raise by like 1 degree.

He has elevated our program's floor after Kiffin, Dooley, Botch, and Cornbreak put us in a massive hole. He was probably one of the only coaches who picked up the phone call from DW to come here.

we could go 5-7 and he would still be fine. We are 30-9 (‘22-24) in 3 seasons. It took us 7 seasons (2008-2014) to hit 40 wins just 15 years ago.

I know we haven’t won it all, but we’re back to being a top 10 football team every season. In this day and age, with NIL, that’s a huge success.

his seat isn't even luke warm. There are seats at the morgue warmer than his. Who would be an improvement if we hired them? No one. There's not a single coach out there that would be an improvement. We have to acknowledge our systemic issues. We've barely been relevant in the last 25 years. Kids aren't coming here unless we show them the money. We can't talk about National championships or even SEC championships. We don't have the NIL money to punch through to the top 5 teams. We can have impressive games and have some highlights but we aren't legit NC contenders yet. Should we look at hiring some better recruiters? Probably. We keep missing out on a lot of needed talent. Most importantly, money. Must spend more money on players. Both in recruiting and almost more importantly, retention.

He's going to have to be a better game day coach if we are going to win any big games. When the AR DC publicly states we are an easy offense to defend, that is a pretty scathing indictment. It's probably why we had so many scoreless quarters. Clark Lee won games by shaking up his playbook and getting innovative with less talent on the field. This year will be Heupels biggest challenge after losing Nico. If we see more of the same I would say his seat is going to heat up
