I think the bottom line is similar to the pro sports leagues. Players negotiate because there are not other good options. Sure, they can go overseas or something but the big leagues are united by the owners.A good counterpoint brought up in this article is: "Why would players bargain for a worse deal? They have many universities pining for their services." I am not sure a deal like this is possible after reading the article. I will admit that I don't know much about this topic, but I thought it was an interesting point.
I agree with you. We cannot pretend that Akron and Alabama are in the same league anymore. Technically, both teams are competing for the same championship, but we all know that Akron doesn't stand a chance.I think the bottom line is similar to the pro sports leagues. Danny White is NOT proposing this to the players but to the elite schools. Taking back power involves them forming a new organization of elite schools. If you want to play with the best as an athlete, you join up. If you don't, look around for better options but they won't be there.
The bad part is we may end up with several different leagues, think baseball with A, AA, etc and no real college ball at all.I agree with you. Thats illegal without a Congressional antitrust exemption, just like with the current and previous situations.I think the bottom line is similar to the pro sports leagues. Read a little deeper and perhaps not with unionization.Thats illegal without a Congressional antitrust exemption, just like with the current and previous situations.
It's the only intelligent way to operate a multimillion dollar athletic business in a multibillion dollar industry.Unsurprising. Moving toward a professional relationship is what the business needs to grow revenue. And White has always been unabashedly and unapolegetically about the money. There is nothing he won't do for that next dollar. Hotels that tower over the stadium, "talent fees," and so on. If anyone thinks he's going to stop pushing the line, well, you're in for a rude surprise.
Some on this board - and elsewhere - love that mindset and think it's the right way to operate.

None of this is particularly good for the traditions of college athletics but Danny White's leadership has led Vols Athletics to excel in this changing environment. In the sport's current configuration, I have to reluctantly agree. But of course, I despise the current configuration. Oh well. Haven't hit bottom yet -- though with things like this, we're definitely on our way. Short of congressional action, it's inevitable.
Thanks for deciding what someone's work is worth. On top of their $$$$$$$$$$ $cholarships, all players should receive $500/month, regardless if their image is good or ugly.
End the misery. End of story.
Good luck convincing the Supreme Court with that argument. Already been litigated and it ain’t going back. Not that I like the way this has been handled but there’s nothing we are going to do about it. We either get used to it or find other things to do with our money. (I’m already doing some of that.)On top of their $$$$$$$$$$ $cholarships, all players should receive $500/month, regardless if their image is good or ugly.

This CIRCUS with players jumping ship to ship chasing the best deal, has to have some enforceable rules and restrictions. I’m all for players seeking what’s the best option, but once they commit, there needs to be strong legal binding contracts that have severe consequences like forfeiture of their eligibility to play in the same conference for a season, for example.Something is going to happen. Either via Congress or schools getting together. This wild wild west and players running the show is going to come to an end.
Like anything those that came in at the beginning get the biggest rewards, those after have to settle with whatever new rules are laid out

I'd rather be with a proven successful leader through this crap than someone else for whatever else is coming.
