It'll be football time soon for the Tennessee Volunteers, as we have a date w the Orangemen of 'Cuse in just 58 days in Atlanta.

So VolNation, what say you? How many W's are we going to post for our regular season? (poll does NOT include bowl or playoff games)

Go Vols and let's kick some SEC Arse!!

Over/under is 8.5 and I definitely think over. I just think the team will rally around Aguilar (whom I think will win the QB job) and I think Brazzell/Mathews/Staley will be WAY better than people expect. Blueprint will be about the same as last year with defense and running game but I think JA will hit many of the passes Nico missed last year.

Probably fair, what with all the question marks this year. Tough outs against UGA, @FLA, @ALA, then Oklahoma and a trip-up, I guess?
Yep. Those 4 plus the annual Heupel stinker. Plus, it's almost ordained that we have an injury to a player or two that we just can't afford to lose.

I think 8 or 9 wins is most likely, personally picking 8. But if Joey plays very well, then I think the door for 10 wins is wide open.

Gotta remember we were saying 8 or 9 wins back in 2022 too. Who knows?

I rememeber the UCF fans mentioning that back when we hired Heupel. Their fans seemed to feel there was one such clunker every season (although I do wonder how many coaches have the "one clunker a year" reputation in this business), and their tone reminded me of how we sounded about John Chavis when he went to LSU. "Yeah he's great but get ready to hate the Mustang."

Eh, I'm not entirely sold on the premise, but I admit a curiosity about whether or not the pattern is consistent.

Also, before anyone jumps on me, I have no desire to see any coaching changes and am fine with Heupel's helming the program. Pitchforks down please. Just seems like he ... has some challenges on the road, and such.

In Heup's defense-most of his “clunkers” have been on the road. Doesn’t excuse them, but I think a lot of people are too harsh on him in that regard.

Mizzou in 2023 is commonly cited as one, and i think it’s unfair to call it as such. Yes we should’ve done far better, but Mizzou was a legitimately good team that year, and we were a step below. It happens.

Arkansas was a lot worse, and harder to swallow. But i think Nico was more to blame for it than Heup. Either way, it was an SEC night game against a desperate coach looking for anything to save his job after yet another embarrassing loss to Texas A&M. Those games are never easy. But even so, 100% agree we should’ve never lost that game.

South Carolina….. we don’t talk about that one.

(Not going to count any losses in 2021 as clunkers because that wouldn’t be fair.)

I'm an optimist and think something like 9-3 isn't unreasonable. But I also have BVS so I figure we'll accomplish it by doing something like beating Georgia and getting everyone's expectations over the moon, and then we'll lay an egg at Kentucky or something.

We just don’t know how good those other teams are going to be this year and, like you said, will we be able to over come the “trip-up” and actually win it?

I went with 10-2. Georgia lost a lot, and a young QB in Neyland will be a tough one third game of the year. Alabama has a bunch of question marks; don't see how their defense will be any better this season, and at times, it was bad last year. How do you lose to Vanderbilt and a bad Oklahoma team? Anybody really believe Oklahoma is going to be any better? No way in hell does Heupel lose to Oklahoma in Neyland. Also, some poster on here has already mentioned this nugget: The two weeks before we play at Florida, we have an open date and play New Mexico State. Florida plays Georgia, at Kentucky (who always gives them fits), and at Ole Miss. For once, the schedule sets up favoring us some, and the weather won't be as brutal in November in Gainesville.

Our receivers are talented, just need some experience. I'm excited about the running back room. Looks like the offensive line is going to be solid. Our defense may not be as good as last year, but there's quality depth all around. I still believe in Heupel's offense. The only time I felt like he was calling his game was when Gas Pipe came in for an injured Nico during the Miss. St. game. I think we'll see more of the '22 offense this season.

Mortgage bet ? 7 or 8 wins - which is not bad considering we are a season away from being big time…

Bet a coupla’ beers at the bar ? Vols are winning 10 or 11 you low down bastard…. Heup is a QB whisperer, and this new dude has something we’ve been missing for two years - a QB who can think and react under pressure- and our mid OL is gonna be a LOT better and we will be one of the few teams that’s not gonna have a pile of injuries..playoffs here we come

Without Mays, Nico, Sampson and no proven OLs or WRs, and with the loss of all the DL… I have us winning 7-9 games.

The bad thing is I count games in Tuscaloosa and Gainesville as automatic losses. Atleast until we can provide we can start winning those. Both are winning with the uncertainty of Lagway and Ala most likely starting Simpson. GA is winnable at home, but again I count it as a loss until we problve we can beat Kirby. OU scares me with the offensive upgrades they made. Mateer is a beast. And the typical bad road loss. KY, Syracuse or God help us if it's Miss St. For the first time in a long time, I have no clue where to even start. We could go 7-5 or we could go 10-2 or 11-1. I personally think Aguilar settles in nicely with our offense and will be a huge upgrade over Nico. JMO

Wisdom of the crowd.

  1. The crowd should be able to have a diversity of opinions.
  2. One person’s opinion should remain independent of those around them and should not be influenced by anyone else.
  3. Anyone taking part in the crowd should be able to make their own opinion based on their individual knowledge.
  4. The crowd should be able to aggregate individual opinions into one collective decision
