Zane is playing baseball for the Northern Colorado Owlz. I'm going to go see him play either tomorrow or Friday. I always like to show up to support our VFLs.

UPDATE: The Northern Colorado Owlz Baseball Franchise has folded. The players have been retained to form another team, the Colorado Springs Skysox.

According to most on here he is not a VFL. Didn't finish his career here. He actually played a little with Bananas, I heard. Great guy.
He definitely played with the Bananas, but I don’t think he counts that as one of his best experiences. He did play with the Owls. I agree he is a great guy.

He’s an honorary VFL in my book. His performance against Clemson was legendary. i got to see him play in Forest City thanks to @1RBFjr I didn’t appreciate his blast to Dollander’s arm when he was at Bama. 😀👍👊🍊😀

I loved Zane and his homerun against Clemson will go down as one of the greatest moments in Vol baseball history.
Has to be one of the greatest games in College Baseball history. Maybe the greatest non-CWS game in College Baseball history especially considering it was in a Regional Playoff.

I wish people could just enjoy the good these guys do here and let that be what defines their memory
I think most of us here wish people wouldn't label players a certain way when they are not. ZD probably shouldn't be considered a VFL when he played at Bama 3 seasons and only 1 season with UT. I am pretty sure he had off the field issues in his only season at UT that cost him a second season at UT. I doubt he considers himself a VFL either considering the 3 years at Bama vs 1 year at UT!

The biggest swings in Vol history are:
1) Gilbert walk off grand slam vs. Wright State
2) Denton grand slam vs. Clemson

Both in Regional play.

3 is tough. Probably one of the bombs in last year’s CWS. I’ll go with Dreiling’s walk off double vs. FSU.

I don't know of any off the field issues and unless you have a source, you should not besmirch someone. Most of us here wish that wouldn't happen. The information I heard was that Zane led Coach V to believe he did not plan to return. As such, Coach V promised his position to Amick. When Zane decided to return, Coach V basically told him he didn't have the spot for him with Amick coming in. In defense of Coach V, he also did everything he could to help Zane out moving forward.

Not sure this belongs here, but the debate over who is a VFL and who isn't is one of the silliest things about our fan base. And also didn't Butch Jones come up with VFL anyway?!?!?

GBO.

It was Dumazz Dooley that came up with it

Regardless of Zane's status as a VFL being disputed by the Barney Fife of Volnation, I plan to cheer him on Friday night in Windsor, Colorado. Vol fans in Northern Colorado, come on out and enjoy the ballgame! Zane seems to be doing alright. He had a 3 run bomb in the eighth inning to win the game 12-11 earlier today. Stat line from today's game with the Boise Hawks.

Zane doesn’t play for the Owlz - they folded. He plays for the Colorado Springs Sky Sox. They play in the same stadium as the Rocky Mountain Vibes. The Vibes are the main tenant in the stadium. The Owlz don’t open the gates to the public. Their attendance is 0. And they play their games in the mornings, I believe. The only way you’ll be able to see him play is when the Sky Sox play AT the Vibes. The Vibes do open the gates and run their games like a business.

This is confusing and doesn’t make much sense, I know. But I live here in Colorado Springs.

You're a 🤡. Don't believe me, huh?
Of course I believe you. I read the link I posted before I posted it. The Owlz folded. Described in the past tense in the wiki article.

The bong was meant as a reference to the futility of the organization and situation for local fans.

I guess it could also be used as a warning that today’s stronger high potency cannabis can lead to paranoia… 🤣😉🤙🏼

The Owlz are still using the same website they started the year with and haven’t changed the site over to the new team name or branding.

I‘m sorry if I took your response the wrong way. I took it as you saying I was the one doing the smoking.

I worked in Minor League Baseball in the front office for a Double-A team for 30 years. I know the industry like the back of my hand. That said, the Pioneer League (the teams in this discussion) isn’t MiLB, they’re independent.
